The freon you speak of was more than likely the pump oil, "freon" boil's away under one atmosphere very quickly.

You need to get an oiler onto the intake of the AC compressor. I'm farily certain that harbor frieght carries them. Also, you may want to get a proper tank, welding a fitting then gluing it closed is probably not the best thing to have a hundred PSI behind. I've found alot of older broken nailing compressors at yard sales, the tanks are usually in great chape.
