every time someone asks this question i think, sure, you can run 40" tires now, but what about gears?

You can run 35's possible 37's with this kit. I doubt 40's unless you do some cutting.

I'd much much rather have deeper gears than some lift.

There's always the 2.8x:1 or 3.15:1 xcase gears from Australia (marks 4wd)
Also, assuming the tranny/xcase combo is the same as the full sized Monty you may be able to get a Jeep xcase to fit.
As for R&P's 4.9's are already pretty decent. Most other trucks/4x4's don't go too far beyond that.
As for the cost, have you checked other IFS drop kit costs? About the same from what I've seen. Many are even higher. Problem right now is I'm not sure if the source for these still has them or if they've dried up. Lets face it this is an aging platform at this point and they may have stopped making them.

you can fit 35/37s without a 5" IFS lift....whats the point of wasting the money

most trucks can go beyond 4.88(4.90) gears, its just the aftermarket, and for most, the gears and install kits for both axles is about $1000, not on a mitsubishi....

The transfer case isn't a big deal to me because of the mark gears and jeep swaps, have you priced out a flipped d300 and np231 crawlbox lately? I'd say mark gives you a good deal

just saying you should consider your options, along with the prices, outcomes, goals, etc. SAS might be more money but look what you get in the end?
