Roll Me Over
Well you should have no trouble reaching the vehicle directly in front or behind you, but will you reach the trail leader who is around the hill and (relatively) far away? Maybe, maybe not...transmitting from under a metal roof just doesn't work very well.

Probably not a big deal, though. I'm sure someone can relay messages in a pinch.

hehe, ten miles maybe if your on the sand flats on an overcast day with solar flares.

Most Car CB's can't get a ten mile range... when your in your vehicle, I recommend an external antenna for sure! the handhelds are nice for spotting and whatnot, but aren't much for range.

guys, this is Coloradozu. Small groups, no hurries. I'v never seen a particular trail group more than 1/4 or so apart...

I bet those hand helds would work fine for the trails.

On the other hand, if you want to talk to anyone on the highway on the way there, then you should definitely invest in a small magnetic antenna. Should be able to find one for around $15 or so at a truck stop.

Need a Spot
Hand helds work fine as long as you stay away from my rolling interference...... You'll need the external if I am close :P

I didn't have a CB at ColoradoZu I so I stopped at wally world and grabbed one. It worked, but not very well. I finally clipped it up high on a visor and backed the squelch way off it worked half-way decent. I took it back for a refund on the way through Salida. Got a Cobra HH off ebay later on just for a backup unit.

I would highly recommend a small mag mount and an adapter to hook it to your handheld. You'll be much happier with the performance if you do. Since most of the trails out there aren't real "brushy" you don't have to worry much about knocking it off. I have one of the little stubby rubber antennas for my "backup" handheld and it works MUCH better than the attached antenna by itself.

Wasn't aware that it was such a huge issue to make sure a required pre-registration payment went through. If you had met me in real life, you'd know how inappropriate your "relax" comment is.

I'm a really laid back guy. Just excited is all.

One of these years I'll make it out there. That weekend Dallas and I are heading to Cape Cod to see my parents. But it looks like we'll be making Crawloween.
