The Trooper is about as aerodynamic as a brick! Nah, a brick has more aerodynamics than a Trooper. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Richard <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

improve performance with less drag , and even increase fuel economy my guess is you wouldn't see either of these two gains, certainly not increase mpg, no matter how much work you did. This is not Nascar or Indy, even once aerodynamically efficient, at the speeds we routinely travel, there is very little to be gained. -Rob

In my experiance, there are 2 things you can do.
1) Put on *removable* ground affects. - I actually tried this on my early bronco. Did it help? Yes, but not much. Was it worth the trouble? No, not really. It was a PITA. Not to mention that many people were doing a lot of pointing and snickering. Sure, I can take it, 'cause I'm certifiably insane, but many can't. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
2) Pizza cutter tires. - If you can believe it, the best mileage I ever got was from a set of 33x9.5 that I tried on for size. I burned a whole tank and actually gained a few MPG. This is due less friction and frontal area. Is my tall/skinny tire data empirical? It's darn close.
If I add my experiance to those that have noticed the same thing, it leads me to that the Rodeo will be something like a 235/85/16.
Tall/skinny tires may be a point worth pondering. Maybe it's not a resolution, but could be a clue to some help.

Ground effects? Like a Civic? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> -J <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

It's pretty goofy, to be sure. Just imagine the skirting of a big rig, around the front and side of an Early Bronco. In some way, it was pretty cool. But mostly, it was goofy lookin'. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I am running 265/75/16(32x10.5) on my trooper and am getting just a bit over 19 MPG. I was shocked when I checked the mileage. And I drive it around town everyday. Of course I have scared a few people driving next to me when a gust of wind about blows me into them but I can live with that.

Remove one of the rear doors, your choice <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> . Narrow and boat tail it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
I lost about 1 highway mpg going to 33s with a 3" BL. Lost another mpg with my semi ugly winch bumper. Which opened up the tires and fenderwells to the airstream. Never noticed any mpg difference between 33x10.5s and 33x12.5s.

has anyone ever given any thought to trying to make the trooper a little more aerodyanmic in the front end?I mean some way to alter the boxy front end a little , and maybe improve performance with less drag , and even increase fuel economy just a little as your not pushing as much air.
I was thinking with a little work on the front end , there has to be a way to make some kind of nose spoiler for the trooper , maybe a little creativity with fiberglass or some such. There isn't a whole lot you are going to accomplish with what you have to work with. Basically you are going to have to somehow reduce cross-sectional area, but you can only accomplish that by extending the nose forward, but at that point you are losing any off-road capability. Potentially you could fashion an air dam which would smooth the flow under the front bumper area and around the front suspension and wheels, but again, it will be counter-productive in terms of off-road capability. ...put a sunroof in the newly diagonal rear roof section...
bam, ugly-ass POS with 1% better aerodynamics. I agree on not messing with the look of the first gen. Doing anything to the general profile only takes away from the great look of a 1st gen.
