2.5" is the most you can get before destroying the cv-joint
4 to 4.5 will be way to much and you may run into a problem with the drive shaft itself rubbing on the frame of lower control arm

if he wants that kind of lift tell him to take the coil overs back and get a real suspension lift
I think that ruff country has a 5" lift

if he doesn't want to do that just crank the coil-over to 3" and use a 1" diff drop
then use a 1 or 2" body lift
