do you add the fuel additive every time though? They say not to add that stuff but once every oil change or so. Something about it eating gas lines up.

Basically there are 3 different types of octane boosters.Solvents,Alcohols and some great big name but abbreviated to MMT.

Alcohol boosts the octane a little but bonds with the water in the tank and all that falls to the bottom.

Solvents barely BARELY add octane levels so are the preverbial "snake oil"

MMT gives you 3 to 5 ACTUAL numbers on your octane levels.Say going from 89 to 92 or 95.It will foul plugs over time and kill an O2 sensor. It will boost the numbers but at a cost.

Critics choice is Glod Eagle's 104+ in the red bottle.Actual gains and it isn't too expensive.

If you continually run an octane booster it will leave deposits in your combustion chamber that will cause your engine to have a never ending need for Octane.Choose wisely.

As for my personal views of what has gone through my car and my Rodeo.I like Lucas fuel sysem cleaner and occaisonally Gold Eagle's 104+ in the car...because it's funny.

I got your Jeep thing and now it burns when I pee!

I only use Lucas Oil products and Mobil 1. Have never been let down yet, and I drive my vehicles hard.

One of the best things out there is Seafoam. If it can be solved by putting a bottle in the tank, this'll do it. I've found that sometimes it takes a couple of bottles, but if it still isn't fixed, then it's going to take a replacement/overhaul of something.

Ill third the BG-44K Argument. I put in a bottle awhile ago, and my gas mileage went up about 2mpg, the engine ran a tiny bit better, and a tiny bit smoother. Plus it made my gas guage work much better.

I have readed about adding acetone to the fuel, and having some here at home I give it a try, my 94 Trooper where doing about 240 miles per tankfull, now I;m geting about 280, I'll keep pouring acetone (wich is a big part % in every fuel treatment).
I'm using 1 pint per tankfull (about 20 gal), engine runs smother and reacts quicker (not a hot rod), also step on the gas very ligthly and try to not use the brake (thats how much before the red light I remove the foot from the pedal), I use the cruise control as much as posible and even had a couple short (40 miles) runs towing my sea doos's or the Rodeo around.
Engine oil is Mobil1

This made me leary about Lucas oil stabilizer. I have since spun the counter display really fast for a minute or two and gotten it to bubble up. And gotten funny looks from the counter guy.

Unbelievable.......octane addicted engines

Brings to mind the commercial where the engines are fed up with their owners and jumps out of the cars and crawls to the nearest auto parts store

I used some of the Chevron Techron stuff not too long ago in my Trooper......it 'seemed' to help with the knock problem under acceleration....who the heck really knows, all the anecdotal history is hard to prove without placebo tests with identical vehicles and dyno testing.

Cheers,

I tell people to only use the oil treatment when it is needed, and not to use it in diffs and trannys like it says it can be. I then told them to spin that display as fast as possible, and they can see the bubbles forming. Most promptly agree with me and realize that its definitely not something to use in anything where gears are going to be in contact with the oil. But it is funny to watch grown men spin that thing as fast as they can.
