Howdy,
My fuel level gauge is not working, I believe the sensor is bad but I am not sure. How would I go about fixing it? BTW: the truck was originally a 22RE.

Thanks,

Buddy

Fuel sender resistance listed on the page below:

A good guess would be the two wires that come off the fuel level sender at the rear of the gas tank.

well, I get a reading of of 20-22 OHMS with full tank. The info on the link must be from a 5speed. This is a bigger tank. It was originally an Automatic w/OD. Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that. If 20-22 or so is full what would empty be? Thanks,

Buddy

All the senders from all the sizes of Toyota tanks read the same resistance from empty to full. The only thing that changes in the sender in a bigger tank has to have more float travel for the deeper tank that one in a smaller tank would. So if you have a 12 gallon tank that is full and a 20 gallon tank that is full, you should see the same low resistance (~3 ohms per the FSM) on both senders. And when both tanks are empty you should see around 110 ohms. Now if you put say a sender from a deeper tank into a shallower tank, it may not read all the way full, since the float would only rise so far then hit the top of the tank. The sender would report this as the tank not being "full" since it is designed for the float to travel up higher in the deeper tank.
