Getting the Wheeling Fever
How tough are the factory e lockers? Has anyone broken one? What were the circumstances? Grey wire modded? I have upgraded my 99taco 2.7 to a 2002 TRD 3.4 and have already ordered the SC I have never been in one with a e locker until now and was wondering how everyone else who has been using them for a while feels about their durability. Is there any common things I should look out for? Thanks, Curt

Everything is breakable
With that said, overall they seem to be very durable. Some friends are running 37" tires without issues, and I've done locked burnouts, so they appear to take plenty of abuse.

Testing was necessary

Mind you, ring gears aren't unbreakable.... there was a rash of elockers with broken ring gears for warranty replacement. Nobody I talked to could specify why, but they stopped. This is only my generalization, nothing more, BUT.... I'd bet the carrier bearings weren't adequately preloaded at the factory.

That employee prolly got hari-kari'd and problem solved...

Another problem is folks trying to engage the locker with a wheel spinning or under power. Bad for ANY locker.

Need a Spot
For the off topic powertrax question I'm on 38s and have been hammering my lockrite for 4 years in this truck. It has been in 2 other trucks and has got to have over 200k on it. I've put new pins and springs in it but filed the teeth and put the gears on the opposite sides so as if to wear in a new direction so its like a new locker. I've bent 2 sets of factory tacoma shafts but have yet to bust my locker or any gears. Hope this helps
