Just got off the phone with the wrecking yard. Sounds like I have two main options.

A) They exchange my motor for another junkyard motor from a symiliar make and model of donor car. I'm not sure about the warrantee on this but I think I would just rebuilt the complete motor becasue its probably going to be high miles.

B) They give me a ***** import motor with a 9 month warrantee or 9,000 miles guarenteed to have 30-40K miles. And I remove all my asseccories, intake, exhaust, sensors, etc. from my 89 cressida motor and install then on the ***** motor. Then I return the ***** motor asseccories and the head and block from my motor back to the wrecking yard. doing this I would have to pay for all the gaskets required.

So I took option B basically because I will have an extended warranty. This will also get me back on the road in the least amount of time with the least about of funds. Then if this one goes (knock on wood), I would probably just rebuilt it. So by the end of this week I should have a ***** motor from a 89 Supra that I will have to start working on.....

Well I picked up the ***** import motor today. So onto the pictures...

Got to love that flesh colored duct tape!

So to me it looks like the motor fell in the ocean on the way over.... I just can't believe how much oxidation there is on it.

Here's the best part - instead of draing the oil thru the DRAIN plug they drilled a hole in the oil pan and then stuffed some cotton type fiber in it!

[Linked Image]

Well looking down the intake, it looks pretty clean in there!! No carbon oil soot buildup like my previous motor.....

[Linked Image]

Plus the recess in the head between the valve covers is not filled with chocolate pudding crap like my previous motor!

[Linked Image]

and looking down the down the oil fill cap, it also looks pretty clean inside.

[Linked Image]

Well thats all the pictures for now..... Hopefully the outside appearance doesn't refect the inside of the motor!

I forgot to mention that I pulled the Y- tube after the TB off the plenum and that 6 bolt retangular plate off the top of the plenum and it looks really clean inside. There is no oil carbon sludge buildup in the plenum that is typical of these motors. Its kinda odd looking inside with a center butterfly thingy inbetween the #3 & #4 intake runner which is also right next to the cold start injector. I also pulled the valve covers and there is very little build up in there. the cams look like they have very little wear on them also, better then my current ones. I also pulled the plugs and they all look a nice shade of coco brown with no carbon or oil on them. the plugs where pretty loose and the inside of the intake spells like fuel, so I'm guessing they compression tested the motor before they pulled it from original car. I also looked down in the cylinders through the spark plug holes and the tops of the pistons do have some carbon build up on them but they all look pretty much all the same. So this motor does appear NOT to have any major wrong with it so far, unlike the first one I got with its blown head gasket!

Well I tore into the import motor some more today.... found a very funny looking puddle of black sludge in the #5 efi runner....

[Linked Image]

And then I found this in crap in the water pump...... I hope this is just someone setting this inlet end in the mud or something because if I find this crap in the block, I'm taking it back..... As it is, I'm going to ask the wrecking yard about it! Its odd because the inlet has got this mud crap in there but the outlet of the water pump looks like its got gear oil or something in it.....VERY STRANGE

[Linked Image]

All the intake valves got lots of crap sitting on them so I'm now almost positive I'm going to pull the head and go have a valve job done if the issue above is not a problem

[Linked Image]

And the exhaust ports look okay.... but the soot that is in the ports feels gritting and not powdering like exhaust carbon would feel like. yet another reason to just pull the head so it can be hot tanked.

[Linked Image]

Here a picture of the intake valve train. and no I didn't clean the inside of the valve cover - it looked like that when I pulled it off!

[Linked Image]

And a picture of the exhaust side valve train....

[Linked Image]

And this is pretty much how it sits right now until I can talk to the wrecking yard about the mud in the water pump!

Boy, I'd be finding out where that came from; tsunami or hurricane. Sure looks like it did a little time pretending to be a reef or a floodwater rock.

Gonna see a lot of those kinds of parts after Katrina. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Well the Wrecking Yard gave me the OK for pulling the head to see what else I find. (I didn't want to void the warranty.) The head looks to be in pretty good condition except #1 cylinder is different in appearance.

Picture is HighRes - so please click on this link.....

And here is what the block looks like! UGH...

Picture is HighRes - so please click on this link.....

All the exhaust side water jackets are really deformed and were probably leaking or would have leaked in the very near future.

#1 cylinder metal comression ring has a small gap in it and two badly deformed sections. I would consider this a blown headgasket! So that makes two engines now with a BHG!!!! #6 also is starting to deform and is kinda egg shaped.

On top of most of the pistons is this weird red fluid. kinda looks like red anti freeze but has a flameable smell to it like its some type of cleaner solution or something.

Also on top of most of the pistons and the sides of the cylinder walls is this loose hard debris stuff. Could just be carbon build up but I never seen carbon on the walls before. and just turning the engine of by hand seems like this crap would get stuck in the rings to me and start scaring the cylinder walls.

[Linked Image]

There is also green corrosion on the water ports on the intake side of the block. looking down in the water ports in the block I can also see lots more of that dark brown muddy crap inside the block!

To me this looks like a Core motor that should only be used for a rebuild and no way would it last 12 months or 12,000 miles!

So anyways, I'm not happy with the condition of this motor at all! I'm going to try to get another one from the wrecking yard. I really don't think I'm asking for too much.... Just a motor that is in good working order with a warrantee! And hopefully a motor that can last through the warrantee and more....

Just got off the phone with the wrecking yard. They are getting me another import motor. So what I have to do is quickly bolt this one back together so its not in a pile of parts, so they can ship it back to their importer so they can get their money back. So as of right now, its looks like Friday or Monday I get drive back to the wrecking yard to trade this junk import motor for another import motor. Lets hope Motor #3 is in good working condition!!!

Tonight I spent about 1 hours putting the motor back together. I was surprised that it didn't take longer.

[Linked Image]

I also received in the mail today my full gasket rebuild kit from www.gasketpro.com for $132. looks to be in good condition and has silicon valve cover gaskets, a fel-pro graphite head gasket and several viton seals....
