Well I just picked up the Chilton Service manual. for some reason they put 1983-1990 Cressida's and Toyota Vans in the same book. What a freak'n nightmare. This book is real confusing to me! I've always stayed away from Chiltons because I like the layout of Haynes book better and from my experience the Haynes has more information. But unfortionately Haynes does not even make a book for the 1989 Cressida which is what my motor is coming out of. So I was stuck gettign the Chiltons......
So I just wanted to openly complain that this Chilton book sucks! I'm really tempted to go buy a Cressida Factory Serive Manual from Toyota now!

Got the engine today! You guys said you wanted to see a 7M-GE in my first gen xtra cab right...... ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426176-IM000568.JPG) I also weighed it using some truck scales that are close to the house. Everything you see in the pictures below weighed 420 lbs +/- 20 lbs ! So thats a COMPLETE 7M-GE with all the accesories including AC, PS , radiator and fan. a bit heavier than I expected but it is a straight six. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426178-IM000579.JPG) ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426179-IM000580.JPG)

Got a Ford Taurus 3.8L 2 spd Electric fan from wrecking yard today for $20. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426299-IM000614.JPG) I also got these parts cleaned up! They had a pretty thick coat of goo all over them! ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426300-IM000615.JPG) I also spend a bunch of money at the auto store for gaskets and tune up items. I decided to spend the time and money to reseal the engine because I HATE leaks and I have no idea on how sealed this engine really is. I also spent the extra money for a nicer headgasket. So a new grand total spent so far of $1600.65

Heres some interesting tech I just figured out that I didn't know.... The 7M motor mounts are actually bolted to the block one set of holes farther forward then the 5M mounts. I never really noticed it until I was trying to put the 5M mounts on the 7M. So here is a good comparision shot of the mount location. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426358-IM000621.JPG) You can also see that the 5M and 7M mounts are totally different. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426359-IM000622.JPG) Here you can see that I got all the accesories stripped off the motor now. (Alternator, AC pump, PS pump) ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426360-IM000630.JPG) And here is what it looks like under the valve covers. Not too bad, just looks like some oil staining to me and very little sludge build up. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426361-IM000633.JPG)

Well I got quite a bit done today.... Got it stripped down to a short block. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426569-IM000659.JPG) Heres the new pile of parts on the garage floor. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426570-IM000662.JPG) Heres what the 7M-GE 24 valve head looks like. ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426571-IM000658.JPG) Its a good thing I pulled the head, Look at #6 cylinder... ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426572-IM000653.JPG) Looks like a blown head gasket to me!!!! I'm going to have to talk to the wrecking yard now! ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426573-IM000652.JPG) Then I spent a considerable amount of time infront of the parts washer and bead blaster! Probably about 4 hours worth..... ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426574-IM000663.JPG) ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426575-IM000665.JPG)

Well I talked to the wrecking yard today about the #6 cylinder. They basically said that I voided the warranty when I starting tearing things apart.... but after they reviewed a few pictures I sent them of the head gasket, they agreed to pay for a new gasket. The where shocked to see the pictures becasue the engine registered 190-200 psi on the compression test. But I had already purchased a new gasket when I bought my other gaskets for the reseal. So either they buy new a gasket (forcing me to return the one I special ordered) or I get store credit for the value of a head gasket based on there return policy... So since I wanted a 3-core, 2" thick V6 radiator for this swap I got one from them and they just called it even. (o I got a $115 credit) So basically I got a free new radiator from discovering the bad head gasket. The new radiator should be in on Wednesday.
I also took the flywheel and exhaust manifold down to the machine shop to be resurfaced. I should get that back tomorrow since they forgot about it today.....Maybe I can get them to drop the price since they forgot about it. (Can't hurt to ask)
I also dug out my 210 York that I removed from the 2wd project. But unfortionately it has a V-belt pulley. I just bought one from my local wrecking yard for $35 for a Buddy so I added that to the list as a cost even though I already had it since its still worth that. But the 7M's need a serpentine belt... So I'm also getting a 6 groove serpentine belt pulley for the York. YORK/TECUMSEH 6 GR. 5-7/8 " DIA. PULLEY Part Number: 1687780C92 KA1480 for $83 + $10 core From the local Kenworth dealer....
The rest of the stuff I ordered from knechts (tune up and gaskets) is now in, so I have to pick that stuff up tomorrow also.

I also forgot to mention that the wrecking yard is still working on getting me a 7M Supra Oil Pan, Pickup Tube, Dip Stick, Dipstick Tube since that is a center sump oil pan and the 7M Cressida one I have now is a front sump.... Toyota never made a rear sump! And since my 4runner has very little lift and crossover, I know I will have problems with a front sump.

Well I decided to work on it some this morning before I go to work so I started cleaning the top of the block and the carbon off the pistons. Ignore the oil in the cylinders, that was another oops on my part....... Wasn't too bad but it takes a long time to try to keep the crap out of the rings. I was using a razor blade and a vaccuum. I would srtap a little, then I would vacuum, scrap, vacuum, etc..... I got half of it done! ![[Linked Image]](http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/1426986-IM000675.JPG)
