I replaced my shocks a couple months ago with some Skyjacker Hydros. The front lower mounts were a bit tight so I widened the brackets and shaved a little off the bushings, nothing extrordinary. The rears fit snug, had to beat them onto the mounting post with a hammer, however the fronts basically slid on. I am now getting a persistant squeak from the fronts. It finally got so bad that I could reproduce the sound in my driveway with the car parked and some muscle. My lower mounts have a lot of play in them. The bushings are not tight on the bolt and like to wander up and down; the lateral (sliding) motion is tight. Not only does this make for an annoying sound, but my shocks are probably not working efficiently with so much slack in the linkage. Do you guys recommend inserting another metal sleeve in the already existing one, replace the sleeve with a thicker one, or should I try to find thicker bolts. Each probably lends its own obstacles, but I'm looking for an "expert" opinion to go from.
TIA
-Eric

I'd go the thicker bolt route. This way It would not require anything other than replacing the bolts. That and not you have bigger bolts. That's gotta be a good thing.

Thanks, Joe, I figured the same. I'm a little unsure of the bolt grades and what material of bolt to use for this application. Any thoughts?

Well, I'm certainly no "expert", but...

IIRC, the OEMs are the metric near-equivalent of a Grade 5 - but when in doubt, it never hurts to add some beef when the opportunity presents itself. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.

Eric - I'm certainly no expert, but, I have had problems with the solid eye bushings with shocks (difficult to put on and remove, squeaky, etc.)

Last time I changed shocks I went with a "two-part" shock bushing ... kind of like > and < vs. the solid hourglass
>-<. Much easier to mount and remove and (with the correct amount of grease - LOTS) no squeaking.
