Getting the Wheeling Fever

Can someone confirm that the low pressure fill valve for the AC is next to the compressor and marked (on the cap) with "L"?

Anybody had fun trying to get to this with the motor running? Looks to be real close to the pulley and belt..

unless your going to evac the system that is correct. the fitting is on the top of the compressor.marked with an L.if your just going to top it off thats the only fitting you use. i just converted my 89 to r134a and it works great.if your going to evac the system you should take it to repair shop.they can make sure all the moisture is out of the system. moisture in your a/c system will kill it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Is there an accumulator on these systems? If there is, then you should replace it when you do the conversion.

Some people say it isnt' required, but that's where the dessicant is contained and usually it isn't replacable.

After 10-15 years of service, it's probably saturated.

That's the port all right.

I connected my charging hose beefore turning the engine on... it is a little close for putting hands down there while things are running.

No, but there is a receiver drier <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />. (There are differences between the two parts). Aren't you a tech <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ? You should know these things... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yes, I am a tech. No, I haven't worked on Mitsubishis except my own and not on the a/c system. I don't think I should be expected to know everything about every system out there. That is what service manuals are for.

After all, if I could recite every wire color for every sensor, actuator, lamp, indicator or whatever else nobody here would want anything to do with me (because I would be weird).

Also, different manufacturers call the same parts different names as well as certain parts that serve a certain or similar function being refered to by one common name even though they are actually different. There's no need to flame me just because I didn't use the correct nomenclature for a given part that I probably have not even seen on this particular vehicle. Had you followed my previous posts on other topics you would have seen the multiple disclaimers written by me stating that all my experience is with one particular brand, and while relevant to nearly all motor vehicles sold in the United States, may not be entirely correct.

One more thing,

Thanks for getting me off on yet another tangent <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />
