You can always measure your rear driveshaft clearance to see if the horsecollar x-member needs lifting or notching:

But raising it adds the benefit of raising everything connected to it like the gas tank and the exhaust. With 1-piece u-joint driveshafts, raising engine and t-case equally will preserve your driveshaft alignment.
