I don't know where the idea started that BFG's had weak sidewall, maybe back in the 70's, from my experience the sidewalls have been very strong. The last set of AT's I had, I had slashes in the sidewall 1/4" deep and chunks of sidewall missing that were nickle size and 1/4" deep, and the tires still held air after 7 yrs and 65k miles.
