Body Damage is Cool
|
Hi, I'll be starting a project soon on my 1992 Isuzu pickup and have chosen to use Toyota transmission/transfer case components for availability and strength.
My truck will be powered by a 96 or newer GM 3.8 v6 no supercharger (series II 3800 motor).
Can the W56 series tranny hold up to 225-280 HP? Or should I use a r150F 5-speed only?

I read the R series won't bolt to the gear-driven transfer cases without an adapter?

I read the R series won't bolt to the gear-driven transfer cases without an adapter? That is true on the r150 (V-6) but not the r151 (Turbo).

I believe Corbin has what you are wanting to do on his Amigo. Here is a link to his website, click on mods and 98 Amigo, his e-mail should be on the top right corner. http://www.trailseeker.com/index.htm

Corbin mated the toy setup to his Isuzu engine, I have a GM 3.8 so I'll be using the dakota bellhousing from a 2.5L 4-cyl then R150F trans to marlin adapter, 87 topshift t-case to marlin dual adapter then 87 topshift t-case. Should be fun!

Getting the Wheeling Fever

I have a 3.8 in mine with the r150 f and adapter plate so far so good. I had a g52 at first, but broke it, then rebuilt it and broke it again. Then I got a cheap one from an 86w56 broke that one Then got another w56 and broke that one as well. Then I got tired of wasting money and went to the r150f set up and did that just for replaceability if I break it again since the r151fs are so hard to come by now days.
I also had my 21 spline case converted to 23 spline as well since I'm running dual cases. I figure with dual cases and 4:56 gearing I'll be ok with 35"-37" tires.
