If you love basketcase engines you would have a field day with my truck. It is a 94 22RE i've had for about a year and half. The engine ticks and clicks and sounds very much like a diesel. Well I think I finally put it out of its misery yesterday going down the highway. Now besides the ticking and clicking and has a super knock. Sounds like it might have thrown a rod. Luckily i've been preparing for this inevitability and already started rebuilding a donor motor (picking up the reconditioned head tommorow).

I have friend who teaches toyota tech at a local school and when I started the engine for him last week he was almost speechless and could only comment that it "was a very sad engine" I've heard all of the following possibilities as a diagnosis: spun bearing, timing chain, no oil getting up top, and more and the way this engine sounds they could all be right.

I am perversely interested in opening this engine up to see what kind of disasters are enclosed within.
