I think I'd go with onboard air first. But on those hot days...

You just need to convince FROR or Bud or someone to start selling these:

I've offered my kit to both for free, but no takers so far...

Ya know what, Erik? I've got room for that bad boy. My only concern would be additional wear on the alternator bearings.

'Course, you could always send me the plans and part numbers and with two of these rolling around we might get their attention. I might need to cut another hole in my hood though...

Yeah Bill, how long was your 3.4 engine sitting before you installed it and did you do anything special while storing it?

Between my twiddling with it and the previous owner storing it, it sat for about a year or even more I'd say. I did crank it over a few times with the starter while on the stand.

Just did the timing belt and idler/tensioner, water pump, spark plugs, replaced the oil pan and pickup ass'y, painted the block, replaced the hoses and cleaned it up. Rear main seal too, turned the flywheel, new clutch. Pretty much it. No leaks so far.

Forgive me if you said already but how many miles were on it? Was the rear main seal pretty easy with the motor out of the truck?

93K. Bought from my Russian friend who buys auction vehicles and rebuilds them to the nines, this one was a parts truck because it had a manual, and Oleg likes autos.

Runs really well. If I keep my foot out of the throttle body it gets decent mileage. So far I have not gotten decent mileage very often, if you take my meaning...

Frankly, I was waffling on the rear main but had bought one and it was in the parts box I gave Mike at ORS. So he put it in after he pulled the flywheel to turn it. Just cuz. Nice touch really; the closer I look at what Mike did the more impressed I am. So I have no idea; I was advised that if it ain't leaking, it probably will after you change it (that's why I waffled)!

But I am thinking that basic good mechanical skills should yield a non-leaking seal. Assuming the crank doesn't need sleeving, and you don't sleeve it.

Darin or EB would be the info sources I would turn to on crank seal and sleeving info.

Go pop the hood on your 3rd gen and look. Now go look at your first gen in the driveway. Done.

Oh, alright. Here is the lovely Red Chili going, um, 'topless', as a virgin run. Don't tell the family. Man, this is getting risque.

Here, the Chili has returned to propriety on our maintenance run on Argentine Pass. Hardly notice the peekaboo hood. By the way, yes, that is snow falling across the valley:

In other words, looks like before!
