Diesels are a state of mind here. Either you like them or you don't. I do and patiently await the USA availability of the 3.2 CDI diesel in the ML with its 369 lb-ft of torque. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> That will make my 6th MB diesel. Much of the reason for not having many diesels here is the lower cost of gasoline we've enjoyed until recently. As in the 70s, diesel popularity will return if the present prices stick - even in cars, since I don't think hybrids are the answer - at least not at the present price of battery pack replacement.

If we had the engine you're using available here (don't think we do) more would likely attempt the swap. Keep us posted.
