Does anyone else here have 3.0L LWB Monty running 33/12.50's! I put them on not too long ago and it seems they are too much for the gear ratio or torque when going up gradual hills after 60 mph since I am at a too high of speed for it to down shift the automatic transmission! Is this normal, or do I have a bad lose of power somewhere! Its hard to maintain 70mph when going up hills, I don't mean really steep hills just normal hills that my 2003 Taurus 3.0L when going up it doesn't even phase the car... Any advice would be great, Thanks!!...Coop

The engine has to work harder to push those big tires. And these trucks arent exactly geared the greatest for higher speeds.I cruise in mine at 55mph usually at the most.It gets me where im going.

I appreciate the come back, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me...But just like you, when I am cruising around at 55mph I dont have a problem 'cause the tranny will always downshift into 3rd If I need it! I am just going to try and get more horses :! I put in some 4 prong Bosch plugs and wires for the extra spark and just added a K&N filter, really not much of a difference yet, But I am working on it! If you have any suggestions on the cheaper ways to increase horse power do let me know, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />Thanks!....Coop

With 33s, 70mph on the spedo is actually a considerable ammount faster. With my 32s when I press the tripmeter while passing a milemarker, it will be on .9 of a mile at the next one. Just something to consider.

yeah i have noticed tht with mine as well.So that is probably why 55 is pretty comfortable to cruise in my truck.

From my experience, when I drove at 55, I'd actually be pretty close to 63 & when I was at 65 I was closer to 75. This is what I learned using my GPS.
Horse power can be an issue but then again, I think I just don't demand as much acceleration from my truck as most people do.
One thing I gave up on a long time ago (from the beginning actually) was trying to keep up with other cars acceleration rates. It's just not where a Monty excels.
Now that I have my golf (2.0L aka "2.slow") I can get all the speed fix's I require. I can tell you that I'm glad I didn't buy a much faster 16V GTI or a VR6 GTI. I'd probably have a ticket or two by now.
