Getting the Wheeling Fever
Now if I change the gears, won't my RPM's be a bit high at 70mph?
I am having to go so fast because I have decided to just drive it back and forth to save miles on my other 2 vehicles! I am looking into a fourth vehicle, 'cause my '03 Taurus I don't want to burn so may miles, the 1 ton Chevy express has a 350 and its not fuel friendly and I don't really wanna wear out my Monty 'cause I want to use it only for play! Thanks...Coop

I read in a 4x4 Mag that the snorkle can actually inhibit performance - I believe the analogy was "You wouldn't run a marathon wearing a diving snorkle, would you?" - I personally don't buy that argument, but I s'pose it might be something to consider...

One thing I don't get is why the things are so dang expensive - $300 for a 4-6' piece of plastic?!! Gimme a break! If anyone else is looking into functional low-cost, but still good looking alternatives then speak up. In my casual searching, I've noticed that there are some accessories for shop vacs that, right off the shelf, almost look like ARB snorkles...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was just looking in Autozone last night and found some "2 flexy intake line for performance vehicles, it was $15 for a few feet(Ya know, it looks like a Shopvac hose!) and I was considering riggin' something up and just finding something to put on the end to catch more air that looks like a snorkle, But I think I am gonna go a different road...I think I am just gonna install that line I was talking about just below my front bumper to wear u can't see it to act as a sort of ram air system and just make it a quick connect/disconnect so when I go into adverse off-road muddin' conditions I can remove it ...Thx...Coop

My 3.0s can handel 70mph on 33s all day. Just slow getting there.

Sorry about this post, I do not mean to sound negative.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I dont buy it either. Unless your snorkel inlet was smaller than the intake...but that would be a rediculous design.

Sounds to me like a case of snorkel envy

No offense taken Sparkem. My problems with the 3.0 were on what I would assume was a heavier car - not sure what the gearing differences between Gen's amount to - but I was constantly up and downshifting at freeway speeds.

My 2.5 does 70mph with ease on 35" BFG's. Why wouldn't a 3.0 V6 wich has 150bhp be able to match that?? Even though my car has lower gears they are lower because the lack of power.

A 3.0 SWB stick shift on 38" can do over 80 so the 33's shouldn't be any problem.

Are we talking the same thing here? 80 on 38"'s top speed or cruising? - i.e. - put it in cruise and it will maintain 80 without shifting?

I'm just speaking from my own experience and traveling with Doug and Nate in thier SWB 3.0 and Nate's 2.6. 70 is a whole different thing from 60mph.

...one of the major reasons I went to the 3.5.

I top out at around 95 but I can easyly maintain 70 in 5th but I don't since it exceeds the speed limit over here and I'm a bit over 3000 rpm wich eats a litle more fuel.

The SWB 38" can do more because of gearing. Last time we took a trip together he was doing the same speeds as we that were between 55 and 70.

On an open road stock gears and bigger tires lower rpm and most of the time save fuel. And since people here generaly don't go bigger than 35" it's not an issue anyway.
