My sister bought a 99 2WD Rodeo. It's a 4cyl. I drove quickly tonight, but it was late so I didn't get a good look. I have no idea about these trucks, but it's making a noise that sounds like it's coming from the bottom of the intake on the right side of the engine (looking at the engine from in front of the truck) and it sounds like there might be a leak in the exhaust manifold. Are these typical problems for the Rodeos of this year?
Any advice on what to look out for & check on? (Even words that I should run through a search on this engine)

I know, a lot of wasted time and money ... if I knew then what I know now....

keep inmind that the 4cly is a GM 2.2L not an Isuzu engine.
I can't think of anyone on this board with a 2.2L.
You problem is most likely a leaky, cracked header.
I think the main thing to lookout for is changing the timing belt (there was a recall on this). If it breaks the engine will trash itself.

I've got one!
Most likely it is the heat shield has come loose, for some reason the right hand bolt likes to fall out and run away. Also have the timeing belt tensioner checked as they have a tendency to stick after 40-60,000 miles and as mentioned above if the belt slips or breaks you can say bye-bye to the top end of the engine. My mother had this happen on her's and I caught mine before the belt slipped too much and caused any damage.

I bought my daughter a 2001 Rodeo Sport 2WD with the 2.2L four and a auto trans. Don't know what your noise is, but so far this has been a great little vehicle for a sixteen year old. 25 MPG on the highway, about 18 MPG in town. ![[Linked Image]](http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/Groups/15/15729/folders/195026/1469118isuzu3.JPG)
Too many 4x4's, not enough time or money

Thanks for the responses! I'll forward these suggestions to her. I've told her it might be a good idea to have a cylinder leak down / compression test as well as a general inspection by the dealer just to get a good baseline. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to take a look at the shield and header today.
I don't think I've seen a two door rodeo. My sister's truck is a 4 door.
Thanks again for the help!

The Rodeo Sport is the renamed Amigo in its last years. It basically is a two door version of the Rodeo in many respects, and I think that Isuzu wanted to pull some name-recognition from their top selling model to try and move the smaller version a little better. James
