Wow, great shots! Someday when I have a house I'd like to get a decent telescope for the backyard. Were these taken with equipment available to your average amateur astronomer?

Thanks Scott! Yes. The images were taken with a 200mm (8") Vixen VC200L astrograph (telescope optimized for imaging) with an SBIG (Santa Barbara Instrument Group) ST2000XM camera on an AP (Astro-Physics) AP1200 mount out of my backyard observatory. This isn't entirely entry level, price wise, but I've only been doing CCD imaging since July of last year. A lot of people have gotten really good images with less.

Those shots are epic! So how still do you have to be with that kind of "telephoto"?

Random pic of my family crest.

Well at 1800mm, just a tad past rock solid. Oh and track the sky with a clock drive in sub-arcsecond accuracy.

Nice crest!
