Getting the Wheeling Fever
So, i got the new tires yesterday, took it in last night. They tell me that it's fine! Since i took my owners manual in the house the other day, they decided to put one in the car for me. (almost hinting that i needed to be taught) And the woman says, Dont ever drive in 4wd on dry pavement, and not even in the rain ... only in the snow and on a trail. So i told her, i dont use it unless its at least raining a good bit,if you read the manual it says, "use selec-trac 4x4 full time year-round on all road surfaces if you wish." "To engage, shift the transfer case from 2wd to 4x4full time while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed." The woman basically told me it's wrong. It also says in another section, "Always engage 4wd when driving on slippery roads." and goes on to talk about hydroplaning on wet roads "under such conditions, engage 4wd"

So i asked if my linkage was checked and was it ok... and she said yes and that 2 different people took it out for a spin. Was it the tires? Or am i nuts.....

It doesn't sound like they fixed anything. You can drive in fulltime as much as you want, the manual is NOT wrong. The person who told you that is was wrong does not know anything about this transfer case.

See if you can contact a local Jeep club or stop someone who is driving a modified Jeep who has some trail damage and they should be able to tell you just what the problem is in a couple minutes.

Hard to say if it was the tires or not.. Does it shift normally now???

If so then it could certainly have been the tires..

The person at the dealership is stupid.. (as with most people at dealerships..) She doesnt know what she is talking about ..

IF you are still having problems shifting let us know maybe we can help you out...

OR at least argue some more pointlessly...

I'm damn near scared to shift it lol i will though, definetly. I picked it up before going to work and i just knew i was going to be absolutely livid if it was still messed up. Noone wants the hateful bartender LOL! I certainly will shift again soon, just a matter of how fast i get the guts to do it - probably sometime on friday I'll be in touch. You all are awesome!

i was going to suggest backing up Swampy. But, seeing in how you beat me to it

the owners manual & the sun visor & chilton's & haines all tell you how to properly shift in & out of 2wd & 4wd.

& you go swampy!!

You realize that you may have gotten yourselves in trouble now. Both of my normal mechanics can now kiss my cause they obviously don't know jack.... and between here and a jeep dealer, you all dont even have to look at at it to tell me whats wrong. you know what this means??

..... i'll be back......

When I was taking a lot of auto classes in college, there were a lot of guys who worked in local shops there. I found that most of the time the person working on your car is a complete idiot. These guys were having a hard timing hooking up an engine analyzer or a boring bar, yet alone understand how it worked or how to use it. Whenever possible, do your own work.
