When I was taking a lot of auto classes in college, there were a lot of guys who worked in local shops there. I found that most of the time the person working on your car is a complete idiot. These guys were having a hard timing hooking up an engine analyzer or a boring bar, yet alone understand how it worked or how to use it. Whenever possible, do your own work.

You got that right. At a recent deposition of a major manufacturer's technical "expert" witness where the issue was premature worn out king pins, the question was put to the "expert," "what's a king pin?" To which after a long pause was heard, "somebody in the mafia?" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Hey guys, Thanks for the info...
I'm having a similar problem (but not so severe) I have a 98 GC and it won't come out of PT4wd unless I come to a complete stop and shift the tranny into park. But I also put two new tires on this fall...I need to check into 2 more new ones.

So did we come to any conclusion on how is the proper way to shift into 4wd? And say if the roads are partly icey I should be in 4HI? Thanks.

I'd say your tires arn't perfectly matched and causing things to bind up... Very bad for the t-case. Also if the t-case vacuum switch is worn, it might take a good jostling.

I don't have the same t-case as you, but I think shifting from 2-4 can be done at any speed under 55.
