Body Damage is Cool
I finally found a low mileage donor truck for a 3.4 swap. ORS has started making a conversion kit for me (they said it would take 4 weeks). Here she is, a 2001 Tacoma 4x4 with 27,000 miles: http://community.webshots.com/album/383446112ZpbXpN/0

My plan is to supercharge it while I'm at it and add dual cases. The old goat will be a supergoat. Also looking at a valve body upgrade to help the autotranny handle the 265hp Think I should buy Gadget's performance kit? http://www.urdusa.com/Merchant2/mer...Product_Code=0001&Category_Code=

93 4X4 ext-cab, auto, SR5, 3.4 V6, supercharged, 2.1" pulley, URD fuel mods, Aquamist WI, IPT valve body mod, dual cases, 4" superlift, Alcan springs, 33 BFG MT, ARB locked front & rear, 5.29 US Gears, RB 1" BL, 1.5" BJ spacers, TJM T-17, Warn m8000.

very nice! That has a LOT of good parts on it that you could make plenty of money on to offset the cost (seats, axles, bed, interior, etc) Good deal.

Thanks for the link, I've seen some posts by transdude before. That is a lot cheaper than the place Gadget used, I wounder if the work is equal?

Yes the truck is in great shape for a totaled truck. The frame appears to be untouched and the firewall/cab seems to be fine too. This brings up a dilemna, maybe the truck would be worth rebuilding. After I get everything out of it that I need for my swap I plan on hauling it to a body shop friend for some advice, then to a couple salvage yards to see what they would give me for it. At that point I will have to decide, part it out, sell it as is, or rebuild it. If I rebuild it I could do a lot of the work myself but would take a long time. I keep on eyeing the back half of the truck and thinking how cool it would be to make a TRD trailer out of it.

Nice find!! Sooper dooper low miles!

I wouldn't sweat the auto tranny being able to handle the added hp. Mine does just fine with over 50K on the SC. I'll suggest getting the tranny cooler if you're going to be doing any towing with it.

I hear great stuff about Gadget's kit, but I'm happy with the performance I have. I do like the idea of a TuRD trailer and dual cases -

If you plan to SC it I would definitely recommend the VB upgrade, unless you never redline the engine. I've gone through 2 factory trannys and I'm going to have to install a new one soon.

On another note, do you mind me asking how much you paid for the totaled truck and how did you find it?

Ouch! 2 going on 3 trannys? Although I would never red line it, I would feel better with a VB upgrade. This should answer both your questions. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...1666&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

I see the same seller has another Tacoma and a 4runner now. I would buy from Ted again, he was very fair with his discription of the truck and was very helpful and easy to contact. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...608&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Another place I was placing bids was here http://www.ridesafely.com/default.asp?AID=1006 but I never was able to win one. First you have to win the bidding on the Ridesafely.com auction, then they act on your behalf at the insurance auction. The insurance auctions are sealed bids so you don't know what the high bid is until it's all over. Also, once I was the high bidder at the insurance auction and the insurance company said the bid wasn't high enough and they re-listed the truck for auction again, very frustrating. You also don't have much info to go on with the insurance auctions, they give you 10 pics and a one or two word description of the damage.
