here are my thoughts:

the officer's job is to set a good example. Heckling, teasing, insulting - is *never* appropriate for an officer of the law, ever. Regardless of anything else, this clown's behavior needs to be reported to his superior, and if that guy doesn't care it needs to be reported to HIS superior. and if none of them care, make a hobby of calling them and politely complaining. Four times a day, every day. Every day. It will get old for you, but older for them.

I have been crawling all over Massachusetts RMV and state charter sites for the last 20 minutes (bored, waiting for g/f to wake up) and have not seen one single reference to a guideline requiring the vehicle to have any particular sort of appearance. Demand that the inspecting (string of expletives) show you in writing the whole of the law concerning these inspections. They need to give you this information, or else a cop could just walk up to you and say "using 4x4wire is illegal, because I say so - you're under arrest".

As for my salvage experience, I hate to sound like a jerk but it was as follows:

  • Girlfriend totals trooper by slamming it into a parked flatbed semi at highway speed
  • drive badly damaged and crab-walkin-sideways trooper home from accident 200 miles (from north of flagstaff, to phoenix) in the middle of the night, with half the passenger side strapped to the roof and doors made from 5 rolls of duct tape
  • Get almost as much $ from the hazardously parked semi driver's insurance company as I paid for the trooper, buy carcas back for $200
  • buy calmini upper arms, welder, 33" tires, two doors, various glass and sheet metal, mirror, headlight, angle grinder.... etc..
  • hack vehicle mostly together, with front camber looking like /--\ , exposed bondo still in need of more sanding, unpainted mismatched doors that don't close right, 33" tires sticking 2" past the fenders, hideously mangled front bumper straightened by kicking and slamming with sledge hammer..
  • Print out temporary 3 day tag from Arizona DOT website, drive Trooper to inspection station with previous title, proof of insurance, and two receipts: one for 2 doors, one for a headlight from Indy4x.
  • Inspector walks around truck, checks VIN a couple places, kicks front tires and says "gotta get this aligned" ... me: "yep, that's where it's headed this afternoon" him: "ok, ya pass... have a nice day"

so... not all officers or inspectors are retarded like your buddy there in Mass <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Good Luck fighting these clowns, man!

i just thought of something else... do you maybe look like a thug gangster or something? Try going to a different inspection station with a fresh shave and haircut, wearing business clothes and see if they treat you different? Oh, and put a bandaid over that "F THE POLICE" tattoo on your forehead <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
Drove down to the site Trooper "Mary" was working and she was there as was another Trooper. i did not bring my Amigo.

I walked in the office and told her I didn't bring my truck yet because I wanted to be sure she was here and I had all the correct paperwork. I re-explained why she had failed me before, showed her the paperwork she prevoiously requested, and told her what I had done to fix the problem. She said the other trooper, (trooper A.H., yeah he's a big one) had told her my truck was in rough shape.

I asked one last time, "do I need anything else" she's like no that should be it as long as no other damage exists beyond what she saw before. She said also I had to do a brand new inspection since she had not brought her notes from last inspection.

I return with the Amigo at 1:30PM today. There is a kid in front of me in line who was a perfect cover for me. He brought a 318i BMW and the kid's pants are halfway down and hat on sideways, walkin with a strut, the kind of kid the Trooper's HATE. Perfect cover for me.

He is waved in and gets Trooper "Mary", I was pissed because I had to get a brand new Trooper, lets call him Trooper "old man", in the second bay.

The kid next to me can't open the trunk and that is required so he's bouncing his butt on the trunk trying to open it. He keeps using his clicker thing making the car beep and this upsets my trooper, "old man".

Old man says "If you keep beeping that thing then you will have to get out of my garage!!" I am trying to run an inspection over here!!"

So I'm thinking I'm a dead man because this guy is a real piece of work also. Both Old Man and Trooper Mary are looking at this kid's Beemer since it's misisng VIN stickers on both doors and some engine parts. This kid was a great cover for me since he was really getting them all riled up with his purple BMW.

The trooper old man comes over to me and sees me in my shirt and tie, good advice from Eric D. He asks me if I have my paperwork. I hand him my folder with everything in it.

He says, "No I don't want this-- I just want your paperwork!!!"

Oh man, I am a dead man.

He examines my papers quickly then stares directly at my quarterpanel and bumper cover. he grabs the corner bumper cover and pulls noticies it is shaking and wobbly. I did not fix all of the mounts under supporting it, and did not remove the center bumper cover in order to get those two bolts in to hold it down. You 2nd gen Amigo guys know what I'm talking about.

He shakes the fender flare because that's not locked down either. I broke a few screw anchors upon reinstallation and didn't use all of the screws.

He says, "Well, we just started and the truck is already falling apart!!!!".

Here I am contemplating just grabbing the guy's gun and holding him hostage. Luckily I didn't.

He goes in the office and leaves me alone for a long time. He comes out the door to the office and asks:

"Chris, did you bring your check?"

I thought this was a good sign since they only ask for money if you pass. I blurt out, "Oh it should be there in with all my other paperwork."

He screams back from across the garage:" DO YOU THINK IF IT WAS IN THERE I'D BE ASKING YOU FOR IT???"

I find the chek on my seat, run it over to him and say sorry Sir my mistake. (haha)

He says,"well obviously. it wasn't MINE!!"

Man this guy gets an A+ in ballbusting but I am still optomistic.

he comes out and motions for me to talk to him besides the truck away from the guy in the BMW.

He says, "how long have you owned this truck?" I replied "2 months."

he goes on, "Listen you've got yourself a lot of work to do on this truck. I could have pulled that bumper piece off with my bare hands. This truck has to go through this process as if it came rolling out of the factory., Your supposed to go over everything. I am going to give you a break now but if you ever go through this process again you have to fix everything perfectly. I don't want those other guys to know I passed you or they'll be all over me asking why I passed you. What they don't know is that you've failed twice already. So here is your documents, get out of my garage.

So I turned out of there and drove off and did not look back.

I go to the registry tomorrow and pick up my plates.

Congratulations, finally this whole ordeal is over. I still have a real hard time thinking that this is typical and what they normally do. I really can't see that your salvaged title vehicle has to look like it rolled off the dealership lot. I mean come on, getting failed for the paint not matching perfectly. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

Anyway have fun with your new to you Amigo.
