Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hi guys,

The cruise control on my monty is getting really "jumpy" - by that I mean it gets on and off the throttle abruptly to hold the set speed. It's getting annoying, and I'm wondering what I need to do to fix it. I'm taking a trip in a few days and would like to have a smoother CC for the long highway drones. Thanks for any help.

Mine's always been like that. I seldom use it. You have to remember that CC was a relatively new feature on vehicles in '89.

Is your spedometer jumpy? On my 4 door,91 3.0, my spedo cable started to make noise and my needle would bounce up and down a little bit. When that started happening, the CC would be jumpy just like you described. My spedo cable has broken and does not spin anymore and now my CC does not work at all.

Mine is still non functional, I plan on getting one soon. I will let you know how hard/easy it is. Looks pretty easy.

pretty easy to do if your even a little mechanically inclined... pull the instrument panel off and follow the cable. it will go out through the firewall and down under on top of the tranny. btw, make sure youve got a pair of vise grips handy... it can be a pain in the <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> to get it loose sometimes. before you change out the speedo cable, check the cables going to your injector. if youve got slack in those that could potentially be your problem. good luck.
