Why are you planning on running the Mega Squirt instead of the stock computer? I can understand it for Mr. Blower over there since his isn't quite stock anymore even though his was a blown motor to start with, but yours is a stock Camaro motor isn't it? Sorry for the length when the first sentance should have done the trick. And Dan, no offense intended, I think the blower setup you created came out slick.

And one last request, and I'll probably ask again later. When you get the whole thing bolted together could you give me an overall length and a trans/tcases length?

Going supercharger or no supercharger is not really the deciding factor for Megasquirt or stock ECM

Mega squirt just seems to me like a stripped down version of what you need and nothing you don't. If I get a stock ECM, I am looking at trying to match up all of these wires that don't necessarily correspond to my setup being that I only care about a halfdozen sensors, ignition, and the injectors. That's it. i saw the hookup for the stock ECM and it scared the crap out of me with so many wires.

I think MS is also a fun project to learn a little about how fuel injection works, and I am intersted in the electro/computer side of trucks (possibly moreso than the axles & gears etc.)

I just want to build a setup from the ground up where by the end of it every little wire and component I will know its location and purpose. Extremely detail oriented. I am kind of excited to start digging into teh rengine harness, even though that may sound strange

You also have an extremely customizeable setup that can be tuned on the fly with optional accessories, without a computer.

I got to save up another 1500 or so for adapters and engine accessories so progress will go slow but there will be a ton of pics along the way

Worked by myself this weekend so had to get creative with strength.

Needed to take the motor out of the bed and did not have an engine hoist. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the I-beam over the doorway and made a nice little crane with a comealong.




Built a little engine stand with casters.



This DIY crane came in handy a few times so far. Pulled the bumper over the reciever hitch since that wouldn't budge.


Used it again to pull the bed. This came off easy, sliding right off. I rolled it end-over-end to the corner of my junkyard. err backyard.





What is not picture worthy was Sunday pulling all of the cab hardware from the truck holding it to the frame. I also disconnected everything under the hood holding the cab to the frame. Next step is drop tranny and exhaust, hoist engine, and then remove cab.

I'm going to use the same little crane to pull my engine, while getting some friends to help push the truck in and out of the garage.

Man, that comealong sure has seen alot of work lately. Pullin dents, pullin engines, pullin beds.... Looks good. You gonna bob that bed? Thatd be cool.

yeah bed modifications will probably happen. comealongs are one of the most useful tools I've used. Even airtools I don't find nearly as useful.

Hey man, I'm really liking the plan so far! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I would be totally overwhelmed taking on a project like that myself, but am real curious to see how it turns out for you, especially the 'bobbed bed'. old engine vs. new

my plan is to put 1st Gen amigo fenders on it so I pulled the old ones. Engine bay is pretty much clean. Suspension is still intact because I can't figure out how to drop the front axle -- might wait until I buy torch cylinders.


engine bay harness is getting reworked to add the 3800 harness. So I pulled it for reconstruction. I also pulled all the other components to paint and replace with new. Figure I can run brake lines now with no ABS, and clutch lines without stupid loop de loops for dampener boxes.



Cab cleaned out. Not putting the A/C components back in.




the neighbors love me-- also working on a project of bringing power to the garage.



wiring harness complete, with some labels so I know what is what.
