Thanks to vovkus for coming... We had two Isuzus in the group (Rodeo and Trooper) and two Monteros (2001 and 1997 SR). I have more pictures available and I'll put them somewhere soon.
This is probably the most remote trail in the whole 'continental' USA. The off-pavement trail is about 160 miles. We encountered just two vehicles in two days: a 4x4 truck and a small off-highway vehicle. There is a dedicated National Trails Conservation Area there. Luckily, due to the offroad enthusiasts efforts, the whole area is open for 4x4 vehicles (on designated roads only).
Roads were mostly easy, but the area is unpredictable and can easily become unpassable in case of wet weather.

That's awesome scenery! Where is that? Is that the lower section of the Oregon Trail that some emigrants used?

That's awesome scenery! Where is that? Is that the lower section of the Oregon Trail that some emigrants used? this is Applegate North California/Oregon trail, from Lassen Medows (NV) to Goose Lake (CA). It starts from small town Imlay, NV. We drove the trail up to Cedarville, CA.

Very cool! That looks like the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada. The flat playa is fun to drive on.

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> The has three parts (totally about 160 miles): 1. Stony and hilly desert from Ray Patch Reservoir up to Quinn river. 2. Black Rock desert, it's eastern part. 3. High Rock Canyon, rather well-known place among Nevada 4wheelers. The "offroad" term is applicable, to some extend, only to the High Rock Canyon (in good weather), but the whole trail, due to it's remoteness, is still to be taken seriously. If your car is broken, you may wait several days for a passing vehicle, in many places of the trail. And the heat is well above 100F there. I had to keep the engine and the A/C on the whole day, becouse I had a pet in the cab and the heat was unbearable for a small anymal.
