I have a 95 YJ with a freshly installed 2.5" running 31X10.5 on american racing wheels which are 15X8. I was wondering what size tire i can go up to, before they get too wide, and start hitting my leaf springs in turns. I believe the backspacing on the rim is 4" - I would like to go up to a 32X11.5 tire, maybe even a 33X10.5 or 33X12.5...would any of those fit? Thanks for you help.

Ummm, if you do start rubbing your leaf springs and that being your own problem, you can adjust the steering bump stop bolts quite easily. Read the FAQ on this issue/solution. I think you could get away with 33's, and would go with the 11 inch if you can find them, or go for the 12.5. Best thing on your individual rig would be to find someone that has a Jeep with your rims and larger tires, try putting theirs on your rig and rolmp around a little and see how they behave.

I have A buddy in Virgina with the 2.5 and 33s <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />. We used to go up in the mountains and all i have to say is I wouldn't do it. He was almost always in 3rd or 4th gear in the hills, he also had stock gearing i don't know your situation. But it was a <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />. Id do gearing before you do tire go with 4.56s or something along those lines. And im sure the hills in Colorado are much worse then the ones in Southern Virginia.

Thats my bust... i forgot to write the word "Lift" after the 2.5"...but I used to have an 89 YJ and in 4wd it was peppy but highway driving a small breeze would slow me down...rarely got into 5th...
Thanks for the help on the tires, I figure a 32X11.5 should fit, along with a 33X10.5, but prob not the 33X12.5 - thats a fairly wide tire. Worst comes to worst ill take the 10 min and move out the steering bump stops.

I have 33x12.50 tires on my 91 YJ. They are mounted on 15x8 rims with 4" of back space, I also have 4.5" RE ED Lift. 2.5 liter with the stock 4.10's but I am going to 4.88's soon

i have 33's w/a 4" lift. in tight steering situations (into the garage/driveway-1-3mph) the tires do rub the springs even after i've done the steering stops.
so now i know what that "noise" is and turn tight accordingly.
