Thank you for following up! It's nice to know what really happened.
I'm curious if you kept the "worn-out" primary jet. was it rusted way? did it look drilled? Could you get a pic of it?
It would really help me in the future if I could see it.

Bummer, I threw it away. I'll see if I can dig it out of the trash. It was made of brass I think. the orifice was so small I couldn't really tell if it was drilled out. Truthfully, I took it to a reputable repair shop and they found the problem. They said it was easy to isolate since I had done/fixed/improved/rebuilt everything else imaginable. I don't know why I did't think of the jet myself......must be old timer's disease
seriously, this truck runs like new. I also own a 3rd gen limited 4runner and I still prefer to drive this little truck.

well just an epilogue. Sorry AN, I could'nt find the old jet. I know it's in the trash because I tossed it in there. I dug through it until I got to the smelly squishy part of the refuse and was daunted by the stench so I bravely retreated from the task Suffice it to say that it was a brass button-shaped threaded dealy with a slot for a screwdriver.
