What brand is the sleeve you purchased? Some of them have an outward lip on the end that slides over the shaft first that is used for an installation tool to push against.Like this...

The ones I have always used from EB had no outward lip, just a slight inward lip that stopped the sleeve from sliding onto the shaft too far. bAsically it mated with the chamfered edge on the end of the shaft. When fully installed everything is flush for the flywheel mounting.

Cant find a friggin picture for the life of me though!!

**This is a 7MGTE - but serves the purpose. Look on the rear end of the crankshaft, notice the shiny portion.....thats a sleeve.

Thats how the ones I have installed on 22Rs have been. The sleeve only covers a portion of the area- not inteded to be pushed all the way up the shaft.
