And so far after 3 hours of diagnosing electrical they have so far come up with " no power to fuel pump"

Quote
Got a call this morning from them,

The new diagnosis is the " The fuel pump is shot, aftermarket available for $300, total bill $500"

I hate to state the obvious, but this is what I see here.
Fuel pumps do not work without power....

I agree,

I noticed they contradicted themselves.

I guess, at some point, I have to just let them do their job and trust they know what they are doing. I don't like when I am questioned regarding my skills, so I feel I have to give the benefit of the doubht too at least until i see reason to do otherwise

Maybe when they said there was no power to the fuel pump they meant the fuel pump wasn't working but hadn't yet figured out why - assumed it wasn't getting power.

*sigh*

Dropping the tank = breaking the pipes for the sending unit due to corrosion.( Yup, it's pretty bad by the looks of it.)

Sending unit sent out for rebuild ( $150) due to unavailability of parts here.

New total, with additional labour and parts.

$900.

O/T: One of the top 3 black plastic tanks on top of the fuel tank was cavitated ( long ago it appears ) like a beer can 100 feet under water. .....LOL, interesting...anyone want to chime in with its' use?

They're fuel vapor separators and there should be 4 of them. The purpose is to keep fuel from vaporizing into the atmosphere. I think I would replace the bad one and check the associated hoses and valves to make certain there are no restrictions.

Truck's back and running.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Turned out the fuel pump simply died. Replacement aftermarket through the garage for 200$ ( Dealer wanted 800$)

Rebuilt sending unit + electrical diagnosis totaled 800$

Aw well, she's back !
