Getting the Wheeling Fever
A friend of mine owns a 1990 runner that stalls a lot. Usually at stops or when going very slow.

Multiple attempted fixes at the Stealership and it still stalls

Any help?

Hugh

Cracked air intake boot? Even a small hole will wreck havoc. I'm on my third since new.

I had the same problem w/ my 1991 Toyota Pick up. Turned out to be the PCV valve. Might wanna give that a shot! It only costs about 7 bucks from the stealership too!

Don't forget the imfamous EGR valve! It might be filthy and sticking when it shouldn't, so give that a good cleaning or a good wrap w/ a hammer (thanx Darin ) and see if that helps also. G'luck!

Also when you post back with your findings, tell us what the stealership did, or supposedly did, so it dials in the troubleshooting a bit.

If its an automatic transmission, it could be trouble with the TCC(torque converter clutch).

Yes, I will list the various attempted fixes that the dealer performed (and $$ charges...he he) as soon as I can.

I'm still waiting to see the 4runner in person and look it over.

More later,

Hugh

Air intake boot is fine, but I found another hose with a very bad split. This is the larger of the two hoses that comes off of the smaller box connected to the air filter housing. Does this route unburnt fumes back into the engine?

Dealer replaced an O2 sensor to try to fix this problem a while back.

I work with the woman that owns the stalling 90' 4runner. She drove her other car everyday since I've gotten the new air hose replacement

I saw that the O2 sensor was replaced and the PCV valve and lots of other expensive general maintenance stuff.

I'll let you know what I find out, Hugh
