Thanks, but there's a lot of people here who REALLY rock; I just happened to do a tranny swap or two. Main thing is to make sure you have all of the little goodies like I mentioned before you go letting your old cores go out the door. I think that backup switch is like $30 or something. It adds up.

ECU will be fine, Driveshafts will be fine. You can't use the auto's transfer with the 5-speed.I thought my auto and tranfer were one piece? I got a whole W56 tranny and transfer for mine. once i drilled the holes in the firewall for the master everything was a direct swap. It'll be a BIG difference to drive, lots more power.

the only tranny i cang find in my area (NY not toyota country!) is a g series transmission. is a w series that much better? i am wondering if i should just get the g series since my truck has ADD Any way. i am also worried about the ecu. if noticed if i un plug the solenoids in my tranny the engine doesnt rev up. im worried that i won't be able to rev up my motor in gear with the 5 speed. anyone have any feedback

I'm not sure but I think the G series were used with carb'd 22r's only. I can't remember the exact reason why they're weaker, maybe smaller bearings or something to that effect? As long as you don't throw a 350 in there or run gigantic tires you should be ok. I don't know how the ADD works so I can't help you there.
IMO, I would keep hunting for a W56, but if you gotta get that tranny, just remember to do all the checks Kewlynx posted earlier.
If you have the auto tranny and associated electronics still in place, pulling your solenoid connections should do some weird things.
When you pull the auto, your gonna disconnect all that stuff and tie it off. You can remove the small auto ECU as well. The only wiring you'll need to mess with is for the nuetral start switch, reverse and 4wd indicator lights.

If you want to know the difference in the trans, check out Marlin's site and if you still have any questions, call him. You will also find some things that you might want to replace such as the clutch, shifter seat or add a short throw shifter kit. If you have the extra money just get the trans from him or the rebuild kit and rebuild the trans before installing it. The Heavy Duty version of the W56 is a great trans that I have been running for the past couple years but the best is the 151F which I will be installing this fall. BTW - I would recommend the W56-D trans as it has a reverse syncrow brake and is the only W56 with an external vent. Try car-part.com to find one.

the auto ecu runs the engines timing a tad bit more advanced to get alittle bit more power because of the auto tranny's sucky power transfer

cool thanks for the info. i think im gonna run a g series becuase my transfer case from the auto will bolt up since that tranny uses add. just looked at some diagrams and i will be able to still use my 4wd transfer switches which are on the transfer case itself.
