Getting the Wheeling Fever

The BGB FSM says to unbolt the axle from the diff, remove the hub flange, and pull the axle out from the inside. Has this actually worked for anyone? I was about to get a tourch and start cutting!

Any tips or secrets?

95 4-runner w/ 3vze and a manual.
