Fido,

I am totally impressed with how calm, cool, and collected this guy was with this entire situation! I'd say you both really lucked out, because if there wasn' any diff fluid in the truck and I bought it, I would certainly be going back to the seller for compensation regardless of the "as-is" paperwork.

I'm very glad both of you have gotten out of this in good shape.

Regards,

Sherpa

Glad it all worked out Fido. Sounded like that mechanics prediction of "thousands of dollars in repairs" was a bid to take advantage of the guy you sold it to.

$500 tow bill? Damn. I would get receipts for all of that. Sounds like to me, they bought a rear end from a junkyard for $150-$300 and the tow was like $100, and thats what they are charging him for.

it was towed twice. once more then 2 hours.
500 covered the initial mechanics estimates and 2 different tows.

the money went to 2 different companies.

Glad to hear everything worked out Fido that was pretty intense for a bit Im sure.

And by the way once the car is sold all liability is 100% off you no matter how somebody "feels" about it.

9 years ago I was still in high school, I had my brothers 92 Honda Accord LX. Took it in to Jiffy Lube for an oil change, and on the way home at a stop light somebody kept honking but they were 2 cars behind to my left. I kept looking back and saw them pointing to the ground but I had no idea who he was talking to, another 2 miles later I got home and parked the car.

The next morning as I was walking up to the car I noticed a huge spill coming from underneath the vehicle... They had not tightened the nut in the pan and it had all leaked out. I mean seriously how can you make such a big blunder on an oil change.

Body Damage is Cool

I took my wifey's 4runner to a JiffyLube for it's 1st oil change (I was in a hurry, but wanted to get it done right at 1500 miles). I see the guy go back to the rear diff, whereby I tell him it's a brand new vehicle & I'd rather he didn't touch the diff's. He pacifies me, I walk away, he checks the diff anyways. I get home & find the fill plug missing (along with almost all the gear oil). Needless to say, I was a smidge pissed... They certainly heard a few explatives from me that day.

Nothing beats when i took them my MR2 turbo several years ago. As i walked in the office I hear over my shoulder "you dumba--, the motors in the back!" I turned around and saw a mechanic with a dumb look on his face holding up the front trunklid and being yelled at by another mechanic. To beat all they left the tranny plug loose so it leaked but i didn't lose the plug, they also rounded the corners off with something like pliers or vice grips. I think it must be a requirement that they have NO mechanical ability to be hired.

Gawd Jiffy Lube sucks.

A few months ago I was looking for a new job, something to do with working on cars. I had an interview at Jiffy Lube, and they went over payplans. The guys who are in the pit changing your oil and screwing things up, are only making $7/hr. Thats why they screw things up, they don't care, they can go anywhere and make $7/hr. And the "assistant managers" only make $9/hr.

And a guy I used to work with went to Jiffy Lube once in his custom painted Volkswagen Corrado. The idiots somehow managed to drive the car out of the bay with the hood open, while the garage door was half way down. The hood bent backwards, cracked the windsheild, and ruined his custom paint job. He was a little pissed.
