Replacing Oxygen Sensor -- 99 4Runner. #631970 07/31/05 06:53 PM

I got the infamous P0171 DTC and indications are the Mass Airflow Sensor or Oxygen Sensor. I cleaned the MAF, but still received the code so I am all ready to go after the front O2 sensor. I bought a new one from Toyota and am all excited to change it out only to be met with a frustration that I cannot reach the plug/recepticle at the end of the electrical pigtail. It is mounted to a bracket above the transmission. Of course, the rear O2 senser is very easy to reach the plug. Has anyone else faced this problem? How did you overcome the limited access to reach the plug? Appreciate any tips.

You can get at it from inside the truck. I just replaced mine on my 5spd last weekend. You have to take the center console apart around the gear shift levers. After getting to that part you can just barely reach the connector. I took some photographs of the project and will try to post them tomorrow.

This article shows you how to get to the connector from underneath..

Take the bracket off that holds the connector as described in the article..

Ah ha ... I will try to get at from inside the vehicle. Sounds like a plan.

Thanks for your reply ... I actually had already seen this post earlier and tried to remove the bracket, but the bracket itself is attached to the top of the transmission case and inaccessible. I am going to try to get to it from inside the truck. Thanks
