I little searching and reading will tell you that you can lift you Isuzu 3" with out a kit, and with out "fabbing" anything. We just went through the basics that should apply to your truck here

AndreThanks for the link but I've already read it and learned agreat deal about tires.I've read multiple threads and sort of got the basics but I need more spcifics especially to my 93 coil sprung trooper. Would be nice to be able to use 200.00 leaf kit but of course I can't, and darlington wants both arms and a leg for my kit, and I see they want 109 for poly coil spacers that don't amount to much more than a pair of roller skate wheels and 80 for 1/4" plate spacers that I could easily fab given I had a drawing. So I guess what Im getting at is I need more specific details/instructions as ready made kits in my opinion are at least double what they should be. Lastly in reading threads I find that it is often assumed that everyone knows all the terms where as alot of us newbies have had little exp with suspensions and sometimes need to be pointed to specific diagrams/directions/manuals.I read this myself and realize it sounds whiny/bitchy but it is CERTAINLY not intended to. p.s I understand the torsion crank part found good info on that.

What makes the parts from Darlington and Matt (Indy4x) a tad more expensive than you can make it yourself is the fact that they've done the homework and the research and put the money into the testing and offer quality, realiable parts.

I think your choices are either support the local guys and the work they are doing for isuzu or forge the new ground yourself. If I was Joe or Matt I wouldn't be giving out my drawing and specs that I'd spend thousands on.

And not to sound harsh back, but if you don't know enough about the suspension and/or the methods of lifting it and the parts required, then it doesn't seem you really need to be attempting it yourself when there are tried and true methods available.

And also, if you really want to get expensive parts go buy a Jeep and spend a grand to get that 3".

For a 93 Trooper, all you HAVE to have for 3" lift is OME 912 springs and 2" coil spacers, along with torsion bar crank. 919 springs might give you another half inch. If you want to make your own spacers, look at this: http://myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson/trooper/coils/coils.html
I don't know how well these have held up, but you can email Bruce Anderson and see how they are doing.

Other stuff you probably should get:
-Longer shocks to take advantage of the higher ride height. It will allow a little more downtravel, especially on the rear axle, but this is not required. In the front you can put a spacer at the top of the shock and acheive the same thing.
-Ball joint spacers and low profile bumpstops for a ball joint flip, gains back about a half inch of downtravel up front which is a good thing.

You might note that the above is pretty much what you get with the 3" lift kit from Independent4x.

If you are going to wheel, other stuff to consider, in no particular order:
-rocker panel protection (highly recommended)
-diff drop brackets to relieve angles on CV joints (DOR)
-tie rod shields (DOR) or keep spare tie rods with you
-extended/tougher brake lines (Indy4x)
-remove rear sway bar, which limits rear axle articulation, and does not affect ride much
-tougher rear axle links (Stinkyfab)
-manual hubs (the auto ones will unlock everytime you back up)
-Teralow transfer case gears

Hey Truperman, I speak from experience when I say pay for the spacers if you value your time. I built mine and it took me about 3.5 hrs to build them. Plus the fact that I had to disassemble my front end to remove a ball joint just to make a pattern. Yes of coarse you would have to do that to install them but I am referring to the added 30 min. just to get the part in which you need for the template. Total time 4hrs. So lets say that I rate my labor conservatively at $25 hr......$100 for a pair.

obviously then, your other option would be to invest the time and research into developing them yourself. i'm sure roller skate wheels are plentiful.

well, you should have everything you need to know available on your truck to fab these up. Surely you don't need a CAD drawing to figure this out.

So I guess what Im getting at is I need more specific details/instructions

you really should do your homework first. this board is very willing to help those with specific questions regarding Isuzu's and those wanting to wrench on the truck, but no one is going to help you take any short cuts or hand feed you, especially at the cost of the vendors which support this community.

well i guess we all have our opinions don't we. you certainly can't expect vendors who offer these kits to charge you only their cost in parts. thats not how the world works.

Lastly in reading threads I find that it is often assumed that everyone knows all the terms where as alot of us newbies have had little exp with suspensions and sometimes need to be pointed to specific diagrams/directions/manuals.

ask specific questions and you will get specific answers. being a newbie still isn't an excuse not to do your homework.

I read this myself and realize it sounds whiny/bitchy but it is CERTAINLY not intended to.

I just think you fail to see the importantance that vendors like DOR and Indy4x play in this arena. Especially when you're a small nitch of the market like Isuzu's are. We are a group that definitely promotes DIY and innovation, but that doesn't mean even those of us that have lots of experience and tons of resources at our hands don't rely on the vendors. Some times it just boils down to certain parts aren't worth your time or money to produce, as vendors are more resources at hand and are dealing in quantities.
