Joe-

Not much help on your poll as I already have bumpers, but if I had to pick one of those for you, I'd be inclined to suggest you pursue the 2nd gen stuff first, even though I have a first gen Trooper.

Especially with the attitude of the board as of late and the way everything has been headed, I don't see how you can justify pouring money into the Rodeo or Trooper 1st gen designs when the prevolent attitude is to 'build it yourself'.

As much as I'm for the advancement of products for all of the Isuzu lines, it seems like people with the first gens (myself included) are having a problem spending $400-$500 on a bumper when the vehicle is only worth twice that.

Now, I'm sure I'll get some people that will say otherwise and will be willing to buy 1st gen bumpers, but I think in the interest of all business (to provide a product that can be enjoyed by the widest buying market) you'll have more luck with the 2nd gen vehicles whose owners might be a little more inclined to spend the money and might not have as much of the 'make it myself' attitud.

I'll sit back now and wait for the masses to disagree with me

Actually, i agree with you Jessica. As much as i would like to have one for my trooper, i think it would be better to expand what is available for the 2nd gen troopers.

I agree with Jessica too, Now I'm probably a bit more biased since I have a second gen, but I'm just way too busy around the shop right now workin on the summer rush of show cars to even think about building a rear bumper and even if I did it wouldnt be near as niceley constructed as what you could make. Plus the time and money put into those things is pretty much worth me givin you my money for it. Also, I think since the second gen bumper is not as simple and ppl that wheel second gen troopers are mostly newbies or novice (not all but the majority), they wont have the skills or thoughts of copying it.... I'd be in for a second gen rear bumper.

I voted for 2nd gen Trooper, but it would be great to know your estimated price.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I can definitely see where Jessica is coming from, and the stated facts all make a lot of sense, in theory. However, I submit that an owner of a 1st gen is more likely to have paid off his/her vehicle and would, therefore, have more discretionary spending money available for modifications. ThatÆs the position that IÆm currently in. I can afford to spend the $750 on a bumper now, but when I was making monthly truck payments, probably not. (BTW, I sure hope my Æ97 Passport is worth more than $800-$1000 now! )

I am a 1st gen owner who simply doesnÆt have the time, skill or desire to build my own bumper; especially not when Joe comes out with the quality of Isuzu gear that he produces. While I do as much of the wrenching on my truck as I can and try to learn what I canÆt, I couldnÆt justify learning how to weld just to attempt to produce a couple of bumpers that I would be happy with. Nope, IÆd rather give my money to Joe and know that IÆll like the final product.

Joe, hopefully you will take all that IÆm saying here with a grain of salt since, obviously, IÆm coming from a biased point of view . I figured youÆre doing a market research survey so; I may as well make my opinion heard! IÆm hoping that enough other 1st gen owners will chime in, too. Not only with their opinions, but also with the willingness to put up a deposit to pay for your initial development costs.

Exactly. My Rodeo might not have a resale value but it still runs strong, it is paid off and there are some things (welding being one of them) that I don't have the time or skill for.

I do not want to teach anybody how to do business, but I just like to raise the question about missing aftermarket parts for Isuzu. Somehow, everybody wants to make bumpers or rocksliders for Isuzus. I have a feeling that there is just no market place for one more bumper brand or for one more rockslider flavor. I do not know why this area is so attractive. But there are some gray areas which nobody wants to touch:

- skidplates
- torsion bars
- cone air filters with heat shields

I have little hope that this my post will change abobody's attitute, I just wonder why capitalistic system does not work here.

tried the skidplate thing a few years back for the 1st gen Rodeo, sold 1

Tried to get people to buy torsion bars by offering them pretty much at my cost from Sway-A-Way, could get enough interest or sell enough of them to warrant S-A-W to un-discontinue them. They will produce them if I order 20 sets, but I don't happen to have $6500 to invest in something that it may take 2-3 years to recoup my investment.

Cone filter, doesn't another vendor already offer one? I could figure one out if there was enough interest, but because of some things that were designed and offered (because people said they wanted them to buy) for sale but then only sold 1 or 2, I am reluctant to invest the time and effort in items that I am only going to sell a handfull. I do appreciate your input though, my cats have played with the crystal ball so much it just doesn't work as well as it used to

Joe

A little old lady once asked me why I have those big heavy bumpers on my truck, I responded "if I bump into something, I win!!" "BTW, I did bump into a Chev Minvan at about 30 MPH...it lost!"
