Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 1995 toyota 4runner and latley I have be having some power issues. If I leat the car sit for a long time then try to start the engine wont turn over all I get is like half a turn maybe then then its just relay clicking. If I dont let it sit for long it works fine. Sometimes it turns over slowly, but still starts. I think I have a small short that is draining the battery, but how do I find out where it is?? Also I have been working On wiring For driving lights lately, but I did half the wiring like two moths ago and didn;t touch anything untill I started having the problems earlier this week so I doubt it has anything to do with it. And the passanger windows have always rolled up really slowly like the battery is about to die, they always make it, but is it possible a short could cause this?

Hook up a current meter (ammeter) between a battery post and the cable that connects to it (i.e. you want the ammeter in series with the battery cable). Which cable? Makes no difference, power or ground cable works fine. Set meter on highest current setting and see what it reads. If more than about 30-50 milliamps (0.030-0.050 amps) you have some sort of current drain. Start pulling fuses and disconnecting circuits until you see the current drain fall off. When it doesm you have located the circuit that has the problem (it is whatever is connected to what you last disconnected). If the current drain falls but it still high, you may have multiple problems. Repeat the above steps until the current drain falls to an reasonably low level.

A cheap voltage meter from radio shack will be needed to diagnose your problem.
Brake and battery light come on at the same time by any chance?
I'd start with disconnecting the positive side of your battery and checking for a current drain with the ignition off. If it is registering a drain start pulling fuses one at a time to see if you can isolate it easily.
If nothing registers move to battery condition.
Still good check alternator out put, think it's 14.4V or more at idle when good. Most major auto parts stores will check your battery and alternator for free. I had a simlar condition when by alternator brushes wore down to almost nothing. Thought my battery was dead or something was drianing it but it turned out to be a $14 brush set.

Roll Me Over
What kind of condition is your battery in. It could have a bad cell causing the slow drain, this is common regardless of how new the battery is/or how long it is warrantied for.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

I took it to a mechanic and he said it was a weak alternator.
