Getting the Wheeling Fever
The relay had continuity between 86 and 85 and clicked when I applied power. I think it is good the switch's lights comes on too This means my 12V continueous source is good, however with the relay on and the switch on there is still no power between the lights positive wire and their ground .
I tried to connect the lights when I was playing with the relay (I wasn't sure if it stayed on) long story short I wasn't paying attention and I connected two positive leads to one lamps positive and negative that promply blew a fuse Im not sure exactly what that means, but maybe someone else does. I guess there is power somewhere.

---- wiat that must mean --- omg It just occured to me ---- the ground must be bad on the lights all I did was clamp it onto the engine lifting bracket!!! that must be it Im such an idiot . Now I have to go buy a new fuse before I can see if thats the problem.

How is it that I keep answering my own questions.??

I generally run two wires back from any auxiliary lights, power and ground. Then I tie the ground wire back to someplace I know the ground connection is good and solid. This way you don't have to rely on a possibly poor connection where the lights are mounted. I usually connect the light wires into a 4-wire trailer plug and then run wires from the other end of that connector to the relays.

hmmm.. a little confusing - so you split the negative lead on the light run one to the frame and one back to the battery????

The lights I've used have 2 wires on them, one red one for power, one black one for ground. Instead of hooking the black wire to the base of the light (or wherever your ground is), I run both the red and black wires back to a connector and from there the red one goes to the relay and the black one goes to a good ground connection.

I basically install lights the same way, I just always ground everything back to the frame. Grounding to the body doesn't always make good contact.
