recently, we noticed an accumulation of water on the passenger side floorboard of my girlfriends '89 Trooper. My immediate thought was we have a bad heater core. However, the liquid on the floor is not sweet like antifreeze, the coolant level is not low, and there are no other indications that this is anything but normal water.
Its a sizeable amount too. enough to completely soak the carpet padding and puddle underneath. I sopped up as much as i could, and its been about a week now, and doesn't seem to have dried up. In fact, its more wet I believe. There are also indications the drivers side is wet to, though not nearly as bad.
My only thoughts are, given we live on the east coast in the land of humidity and the temperatures around here lately, that this is due to a/c condensation. however, I didn't know what parts of the a/c system could produce such condensation *inside* the cab.
Any thoughts?

Rob, Also living in high humidity and temps(north Texas), my '92 Pup has the same deal. The a/c unit puts out a great deal of condensation even if you keep the drain tube blown clear. Taking the lazy approach I just removed the rubber plug in the floor covering one of the bolts down to the frame. This seems to work fairly OK, at least I haven't had water soaked carpet on the shotgun side for weeks now. The water follows the channels in the floor till it comes to the hole to the outside then drains out. Regards,

Check out your evaporator core which is the middle box. Right box is blower, left box is heater core, middle box is evaporator. There is also a hole for teh drain in the firewall, looks like a faucet with no handle. (aimed down like a faucet). Evaporator prodces a constant flow of condensation as the hot moist air hits the cold heat exchanger. It is designed to hold that water until it reaches the drain. Yours is probably plugged up with mud and dirt. Reach in with your finger to check. There is no seam on the bottom of the core so it shoudln't be the unit itself. Also, plugged evap should not cause any moisture on the driver's side that must be unrelated.

This morning, this problem took a different turn. Here in NC last night, we had some huge storms with a lot of rain. I had previously discounted the possibility that it was just rainwater coming up through the floor b/c it would be wet days after the last rain.
Anyway, I got in the car this am and noticed that the floorboard was a big puddle. I'm sure there is at least a liter of water if not 2.
Now, like most 1st gen troopers, my doors don't close perfect. I'm thinking that somehow in the last few weeks when i first noticed this problem that either the door seal or door sill is leaking and since the door doesn't close right all the time it leaves a bigger gap. So deductively when it rains, the water drains off the rain gutters and right down the door hinge, seeping through to the floor board. Is this possible?
I still may have some other clogged drain lines, but this is a lot of water to appear overnight when the car hadn't been run in hours.

Jessica I think you found your proublem. I just saw this post and that is the first thing that came to my little mind. I replaced all the gaskets around my doors when we painted the trooper but I still get water in the very back of it. I have played with the rear doors so much to try and stop it but it keeps getting in. Not alot when it rains but when I wash the trooper it gets real wet back there. Sit inside and let Rob spray the water hose all around the doors and windows. Then you should be able to tell were it is coming from.
Later, Daniel

RobG & Jessica -
I was gone on vacation last week. My troop did not sit in its usual place and we had lots of rain...which you are getting now. My passenger's side floor was soaked. I thought maybe I left the window cracked while we were gone it was so wet. BUT the seat was dry. My first thought was no drip loop on the antena wire and water was running in...no dice. I am now thinking it is in the cowl. My truck was leaning to the right while we were gone. It has rained (a lot) since we got back, but the troop was in its usual spot and NO WATER. I think I have an issue with truck lean to the right while it rains. all of my door seals are in good shape. No leaks when washing.
I need to investigate further. HTH - JL

I thought about the cowl, but my truck leans to the left and all this happens on the right. That might explain why there is a little water on the drivers side though. I went down there a little bit ago to look at the door seals and check out the situation a little closer. The seals are all in good shape and seemed to seal fine. The little vent window was a little wet, but it always is and the door panel isn't wet or anything.
I'm going to try to go down in a little bit to try to drain some of the water. Maybe i'll spray the hose at it and see what I can find.
I suppose no one can really help me if it's leaking, just gotta find the leak. It's bad that the only thing that leaks on the whole car is rain water!

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

Thanks Jerry
Well, we took the water hose to her tonight. It looks like it's coming through the hood seam right at the windshield corner, on the passenger side of the firewall. I noticed about 2 or 3 months ago the speaker on that side sounded foggy and just assumed since they were factory it finally gave. Well, tonight, my speaker looked like a water spigot when the hose was pointed just right. After removing the speaker, you can crane your neck and look up the hole and see it dripping from a pinch seam way up there.
We can't tell where it starts from though, probably where Jerry is talking about and hopefully it's just b/c I park under a pine tree every day and the needles worked their way down there. We'll look at it again in the daylight tommorrow, except this time I get to hold the hose and Rob has to lay in the puddle!
(edit: This would be Jessica if you didn't figure that out)
