Not true at ALL! I'm a VERY recent buyer of a 95 Ext cab (non-Taco), but I've been a Ford junkie for many years... The Ranger was COMPLETELY redesigned for 98 (97- had the TTB front, while the 98+ are SLA) There are other changes made after that, but they are admittedly not major by comparison.
Sorry, sir, but your information is correct. As a former owner of two Rangers, '83 and '93, and from being intriqued by their lack of redesign for a long time, there is very little that has changed (outside of the front suspension) since 1993. Some minor interior updates and the addition of the suicide doors is really about it.

Ya, but as we all know, a new design is not necessarily a good thing.
Oh ya...Taco owners know this very well.......

But Ford is definitely behind the curve on power, etc. And that IFS/Torsion bar system they have is just goofy.

I will say that my 93 4x4 with 150k still drives like a new car. It gets good mileage for what it is, and is reliable as the sun rising in the morning. Exactly what made Toyota's so legendary. I have 178k on my '90 and the fit and finish is as good 15 yrs later as the day I bought it new. This could be an exception since I am meticulous about maintaining my rig, however it has been the same for the last 4 Toys I have reconditioned over the last 18 mos(3 of which were headed for the junkyard when I got them). Between the 4 they had over 1.2 million miles and 73 yrs of use. With the exception of cleaning and new seats, the interior was perfect, all of the switches and knobs worked, and all of the door handles/trim pieces were still on. You just can't beat a Toy. As far as the new ones, Detroit has a long way to go(or Toyota has a long way to fall before), before any of the domestic labels even reach Toyota quality. It is sad that the country that basically invented the automobile, can't build one that can last, this isn't a slam against the factory worker, but the rest of them who are more concerned with the bottom line than building a quality car. Unfortunately for the Domestic labels, those people who are/were only willing to buy Domestic are literally a dying breed. I have 2 great uncles that fought in the Pacific against the Japanese, 20 yrs ago they swore they would never buy a Japanese automobile, and Today they all(those still alive) drive nothing else. When I have talked to them about why they bought one, most of them have replied the same, they are tired of buying a new car to only have it start falling apart within 3 yrs.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

How the &&%)(*#(*$#**^# can this even be a question???????
-Chris Because I WAS wondering what to do with my Toyota...keep it or trade it in on a Ford at work?! After hearing what everyone has to say, I've decided to keep and fix my Toyota. First: I'm taking out the blocks in the rear and loosening the torsion bars so I can put 31's on, or if they won't fit on my 10 inch wide rim(maybe 10.5 inches, not sure), 32's. Like I said before, the trucks bucks when I hit anything bigger then a pebble and as this is going to be my daily driver, fuel economy and the ride have to be half way decent. 33's (what I have right now) are just too big for what I'm going to be doing with the truck....just the occasional off road trip with friends, probably nothing too extreme. Second: Align it! Will probably do that this Saturday at work. Third: Fix rear glass leaking water...should be easy fix, just taking down to local glass shop and have it resealed. I might have it replaced. There is no latch keeping anyone from just sliding it open and getting it...it is a small opening though. Any ideas????????Fourth: Tires! BFG All terrains...the guy at the place tried to sell me Maxxis Mudder Buckshots. "They aren't that loud and ride pretty good." Yeah, I'm sure they do....

Taking the blocks out and uncranking the torsion bars is a great place to start!
The alignment is a no-brainer
The rear glass might be as easy as using some silicone and sealing it up that way.
Tires - The BFG AT is a good choice, possibly another option may be the Bridgestone Dueler Revo. In the P-metric sizes they actually carry a 50k mile treadlife warrenty (265-75-15 is right at 31"). You say you have a 10" wide rim? Might be a bit too wide for a 10.5" tire. It'll probably seat the tire, but IMO it'll look kinda funny. Sorta like the F250's with 7" wide wheels and 235-85-16's. PITA to get those tires to seat the bead.
1986 Pickup extracab longbed "Woody edition" SAS - 33's, 5.29's, lockright rear.
02 IS300 SportCross - my "DD" 94 2wd v6 extracab 04 Outback Wagon- wife's/family car

Go with the ford
I dont know if you would be buying brand new or not, but i do know that i had a 88 4runner, and loved it, but finding parts at least here were next to impossible
My current ride is a ford tempo, 1/2 the parts are from various f150s, explorers and rangers. If you are on a budget like me, and need to get cheap used parts, im sorry, but domestic takes the cake simply by numbers
i know toys are better offroad, but ive seen their 4.0v6 get the same mileage as my old 22re (running good) but 4.0 has gobs more power
if toys were more plentiful and had slightly bigger engines, i would buy one, but ive decided to go with the ford

Everytime I look at or work on the Toyota, I change my mind. It seems like everytime I work on one thing, I find something else wrong with it.
I aligned it today...no more wheel lean! So, at least that is out of the way.
In the process, I kept noticing the 4 wires hanging down from the Toy. I haven't got around to using the test light yet, but I will to see if one is the 4WD light and/or reverse light.
Also, I kept noticed minor small things...boot by the slave cylinder is melted, various exposed wires, I think it is running rich...you can smell it in the exhaust. Which brings me to another point. There is no boot on the shifter, so you can see right through to the tranny. Gets very hot! I can get one made through our interior guy for $25, but that is not a big deal right now....
Part of me wants to sell it and part of me wants to keep it. Now, I still don't know what to do.
I might just keep my Ford Escort and sell the truck the way gas and things at work have been.
*Still confused*
