ahhh, porta-mig. pretty cool!
i've got that same one(bought it for chuckles) and it's actually treated me pretty well. not very good for welding exhaust(as any flux core isn't) but works great on a little thicker stuff.

I got that exact same welder. If you end up NOT using some of the parts, send them my way, especially the roller/feed assembly.

I got that exact same welder. If you end up NOT using some of the parts, send them my way, especially the roller/feed assembly. sorry...the motor/roller/feed is the core of the set-up....but I am throwing away the wire speed controller board I was hoping this would be snip and clip and ready to use a portable MIG. Hooking up 2 motor-cycle batteries in series to the MIG's hot hire worked excellent....but the thing that was acting up was the wire speed......the controller board did not like pure 24vdc. So I clipped it out and ran my own separate regulated adjustable 12vdc source and it works great as seen in the pics below. Soooo now I have 2 trail MIGs ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/kenfrancisco/8fec1090.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/kenfrancisco/8607eccf.jpg)

Hmmm....could you explain the mods in a little more detail for me? Sounds like you just unhooked the 120vac transformer and hooked up 24v to the mig portion and 12v to the roller?

A few years ago I picked up an old Hobart wire feeder unit off of eBay. Basically the same thing, just doesn't have any internal power at all. All built to run off the welding feed power. Right now it is set up for flux core only, but I picked up some parts to try and adapt it to run gas if needed.
