I've heard about pumping gas in the morning b/c the pumps measure volume, not density. As for the accelerate 80-90%... dang never heard of that. I thought you'd wanna accelerate slower to keep the engine in a high(er) vacuum situation making it more efficient.

I thought my mileage just sucked, but after reading those I'm elated. I get 18/19 around town. 25/26 on the open highway. 02 4x4 Sport 3.4L Auto, stock tires.

I've been getting 18.6 mpg very consistently around town... haven't been on the highway for any real distance in a while, but my last long trip was easily around 25 mpg.

I get lousy mileage too. I've been afraid to check but I'm filling up at 250 so I guess around 15mpg. 33's and 4.10s for me. Lately my commute is only 7min to work so that doesn't help either.
My gas gauge has gone off the deep end and I'm going to have to take it to the dealer. It reads half full when the tank is empty (guess how I found that out) and 1/4 full when there are a couple of gallons left. Sometimes after filling up it really gets confused, goes to E and the fuel light starts flashing. I replaced the sender with the TSB version a while back.
Here in CA the tanks are underground. How would the fuel temp/density really change much morning to evening? In the winter, mileage gets worse because of the additives (ethanol?) and the additional startup temp difference. Per your theory, shouldn't winter mileage be better? The vapor pressure of gas DOES really vary on temperature now that you mention it. Those Jerry cans really get some pressure in the heat.

The differences happen underground, just more subtly... Until you pumo it through an above ground pump. This thing stays at ambient temp, so the fuel heats some as it rises up.
The winter mileage would be awesome if there were no additives. I notice about a 3-4 mpg jump if I fuel in the deep south, then travel north during the winter. We don't get winter additives in Florida, and I can make it clear to Tennessee on a fillup just north of the Ga state line in the winter (fuel is the same, just 10-20 cents cheaper). That's about 345 miles on 15 gallons of fuel = 23 miles per gallon, going 75-80. If I slowed down to 70, I probably could cross the 25 mpg threshhold. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I am averaging 18.8 - 19.5 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving and 21 mpg mostly highway. Right now I am basically stock with slightly larger tires and a 5-speed manual.

My gas is horrible for some reason... When the light first comes on, I get 200 miles mixed freeway and highway... I pump about 13-13.5 gallons each time approx 15 mpg... I'm on 265/75/16 tires.

calculated my gas milage today on my '94. I got 261 miles out of 14.5 gallons of Regular. Can't beleive i'm getting 18mpg with my built rig. that's a lot of romping on it in the tampa traffic, really NOT pampering.. I could drive it a lot easier! People probly think I get 5mpg... boy are they wrong. I fill up every 2 weeks and Drive it a lot.. it honestly suprises me.
