I would like to know what kind of fuel economy everybody's Montero is getting.

Please include:
1, miles traveled per tank
2, gallons used
3, engine size
4, tire size
5, year and model
6, other mods that may affect fuel economy

I'll start.

314.8 miles
15.491 gallons (regular unleaded)
3.0L v-6, 5-speed
33x12.50R15 BFG mud terrains
1990 LWB
Body lift, t-bars cranked, rear springs

20.32 mpg

I'm hoping that this thread will be popular enough to sticky. I think it would be very valuable to see what people are doing differently to get better/worse economy.

Miles per tank (before I fill up, anyway): 160-165
Gallons Used: 13.5 to 14.0(ish)
Engine Size and Trans.: 2.6L, 5-speed
Tire Size: 31 x 10.5 BFG A/T's
Model: 1987 2 door

I'm averaging about 11.8 to 12.5 mpg without air/windows down, and about 12.2 to 13.1 mpg with a/c on and mixed driving (city/highway). I have to 36" tool boxes and a mini-van cargo divider mounted inside and tools for geologic/geotechnical work; the total additional weight is approximately 250 pounds.

haha.

I was just wondering this and decided to drop by the forum and do a search.

I guess it was the $35 it took to fill the tank today $2.76
87 oct....

19.22 mpg highway on 125 mile drive (got 22 last shot after new brakes, bearing repack but may be a flook)

But my front is lowered and I'm running 265/75/15 (came with the truck)

SACRiLEGE, i know. Did it to improve HWY handling and mpg while using it as daily driver, it worked!

19.22 mpg HWY
3.0 V6
265/75/15
89 lwb
lowered front 19" hub to fender
10W30 quaker state, 36 psi.

city mpg pending...

1, miles traveled per tank -- no clue, gauge doesn't work correctly so I'm afraid to let it go
2, gallons used -- I get 22mpg or so, daily driving, with or without AC
3, engine size -- 2.6
4, tire size -- 235 14's
5, year and model -- 1987 Raider
6, other mods that may affect fuel economy -- All emissions removed including cat (gone when I got it), seriously modified Mukini carb. 20w50 Castrol year round.

MPG:16 approx
Engine: 2.6L I4
Transmission: 5 Speed
Tires: 235/75/R15
Make: 1988 Dodge Raider
Driving Conditions: 70-85mph Highway=70% & 35-45mph Stop and go=30%
Other: Not sure what emissions parts are still working, I know it has the carbon canister etc (its never been inspected, period). Also the air filter is dirty (a DOH replacement) and the carb is horrible at keeping a good gas/air ratio.

Roll Me Over
I drive:
1. 220-260mi/tank
2. 14-16gal/fill-up
3. 3.0L V6 SOHC
4. 31"x10.5" Michelin LTX A/T
5. 1989 Dodge Raider
6. ?" suspension lift (never measured), 2" body lift, bull bar, winch, IPF 960s, roof rack, snorkel, Magnecor plug wires, Orbital battery, speedo gearing corrected for tire size, Diamond ATF SPIII (you laugh, but I've been getting 1mpg better with that stuff), cooling system in top condition, correct ignition timing, correct heat range for spark plugs, 87 octane, Mobil 1 10W-30, ignition system in top condition

Unfortunately, I have a heavy foot. Mileage varies considerably - mostly dependent on wind conditions: 14-17mpg, typical = 16mpg

To improve fuel economy, I plan on driving a Civic Hybrid.

An in teresting comment. Last winter I took the 87 to the NJ/NYC area. Lots of long rolling hills across PA on I-80. I got the usual ~13MPG that I had been getting. On the way back, and with head winds that would cause me to grip the wheel tightly, I got just over 11MPG. I too have a 2" BL.

from a old post
I did a test on my last few gas tanks to compare driving style vs gas mileage.

My first test I drove my normal lead foot style 181 miles of hilly city driving 12.6 gallons for 14.3 mpg

The next tank I drove like a old lady, coasting down hills, slow acceleration etc. 165 miles 10.2 gallons for 16.1 mpg.

I figure this is pretty good considering the city milage for a new truck is rated at 17mpg from

Need a Spot
1, 320
2, 19.7
3, 3.5L V6
4, 265/75/15
5, 1995 Montero SR
6, N/A

All city driving. So it's about 16 mpg. I don't think that's bad for a 7 passenger, 10 year old, 100K mile SUV. The only thing that gets me is the large tank and the ~$50 fill up.
