Once in a while?!! At 88K I really wouldn't suspect a mechanical failure, although driving principals may promote something in mechanical failure. Good chance the sender is weak. I prefer mechanical guages for this reason. Check/change your oil if it's been a while, might help, can't hurt...Cal
