So a one piece drive shaft from a manual won't work with an auto because I have a fixed and they have a slip yoke.

Yeah, fixed at both ends and slip in the middle.

another 42.5" dimension. I'll try to get it done Saturday morning if they are open. I'll post my measurement for reference.

I really don't want to drive 45 minutes at 65 mph in FWD . Might tear a boot . I'll drive the school bus. Plenty of room to tote the shaft in there

Thanks Fellas - JL

the isuzu tcase/tranny doesn't mind. I drove highway speeds for 5 hours on my front shaft to wheel at Tellico because my rear shaft produced too many vibes for highway travel.

Of course, I had a SAS at the time, so i can't say about CV boots, but unless they're already dead, they should easily last a single trip like that without incident.

all you need to do is remove seperater the 2 shafts at the 2nd u-joint in the carrier bearing, take the front yoke...press it on the u-joint of the back 1/2 of the shaft.

then that is your new shaft.

that will need to be re-tubed to length

disguard the part with the carrier bearing in it.

FYI, you can press out the front u-joint and save it as a spare for the new shaft.

Well , I was curious , and had to do it anyway , so I went out and took off the driveshaft on my 89 with the 2.6.I was surprised , its a fixed yoke also , with a total length of 44" , so a little longer than the 2.8 driveshaft.Of course we are talking from end to end with the u-joints and bearing in there , not just the length of the shafts alone. So maybe I can just take in my 2.6 shaft , tell them the length I need and have them do it.Although I am not sure what length I need yet

OK if anyone out there has a 1st gen trooper with a manual tranny and a fixed yoke t-case, post up with more info about your truck.

My guess is that there's noone out there
