When I bought my '83 pickup in April it had significant leaks in the cab...I didn't know exactly where but the carpet was always wet after a typical springtime FL monsoon. First I found one of the rubber plugs missing from the hole behind the seat, so I replaced that. Then I found that the hole in the passenger side where the antenna goes was letting some water in, so I put a grommet in it and some sealer. The cab still leaked and fortunately for me the windshield had a crack that grew and grew until the insurance replaced it and the rubber seal. My old seal was toast and after the replacement, I hadn't leaked a drop until today. We have an approaching hurricane which is dropping lots of water, so I thought I'd check the cab for any leaks. Sure enough there is some water on the driver's side floor, right where the cab mount bolt is. If I follow the drops of water, I can see that there is some water coming in right in the lower corner of the windshield, almost like it pools in that bottom corner on the outside of the windshield and slowly leaks its way in. Anyone else have this problem? The windshield guy told me NOT to use silicone on my windshield for some reason (his english was so-so). Should I cut a slit to act as a channel in the rubber seal in that corner to allow the pooled water to escape?

You might need to look under your grid plate just aft of the hood to make sure the drain holes there aren't clogged. IIRC, they're tucked to the outboard side; might be able to see them with a flashlight.

Where's Darin? He knows how to get that thing off.

Good luck and be careful down there.

what does "aft" mean. does it mean next to? i was just wondering b/c i have a leak in my cab. but im pretty sure its my windshield. another thing that is common to leak is the seams underneath the fender which go into the cab. i cleaned all the rust out of mine, painted them w/ some por 15 and then used some seam sealer to finish it up. now no more leaks on the driver's side.

I've read about the fix you have; seems common in the rust bucket regions; that corner window trim wasn't all that great a design.

Aft is opposite of Fore, or forward.

kewlynx, thanks I'll check those drains.

87Toy - can you explain what seams you mean, I'm not exactly sure.

Thanks to both of you, these are definitely areas I haven't checked yet. Katrina has dumped some massive rain on the old truck.

you have to take off your fender to see them well. you might be able to look up there if you take your fender lining out. but it is inside the top left of the passenger side fender when you take it off. you can stick your hand up there and feel the lip. kinda hard to explain online. it is where all the panels meet together. maybe someone has pics.
